Well Tim Spector has now finally piped up over Omicron and uploaded a video about it onto YouTube, but doesn't seem too overly concerned about it so far.

So my oh is going for his booster today which is fab. Mine is in 2 weeks. Seems like covid is inching a bit closer to home. Both my sister & nephew have it now. He (teenager) had it very mildly with barely any symptoms . She is, I suspect playing her case down for me, but says she has cold symptoms and a low fever. Hopefully that’s the worst it will get for her.

I know we are learning to live with it, but it’s relentless isn’t it?

    Hope you’re all doing well.

I do believe one day it will be just like any other cold/flu and most of us will be affected very mildly by it. I think it's just a matter of time.

Still not great for those who have lost their lives or are experiencing long term health problems.

I have everything crossed that the boosters will result in it becoming a very mild illness. It’s another layer of protection and each vaccine dose is teaching our bodies how to deal with the infection. I find that because we have been trained to be terrified of it, our brains aren’t recognising that the medical advancements over the last two years have made it a far far less serious illness for the vast majority of people. My brain certainly hasn’t got the message.

Sadly, there's no guarantee that Covid will become less pathogenic over time like say, "Spanish" flu did. The original SARS and MERS got worse.

Only time - and human ingenuity - will tell.

If the original SARS and MERS got worse, then where are they now?

    Re: Covid-19 discussion thread

Dr JC's latest video suggests so far so good as far as Omicron-specific hospitalisations and deaths are concerned in the main 'epicentre' of SA.

And this is in spite of a larger proportion of people with HIV/AIDS and other ailments there.

Whilst Dr JC did admit it's still very early days as yet and things could still change in due course, if Omicron does actually happen to be the least lethal of all of the Covid variants so far, its rapid global spread could even be considered some happy accident, but in the meantime, only time will tell.
