    Mole advice

    Hi,

I'm new to the forum and would like some advice please.

I've suffered with health anxiety for the last few years and end up going to the doctor's every few months with a different issue. Everytime the doctor has taken a look and my problems said it's okay and I feel okay for a few months until something else pops up.

My latest issue is a mole that has just started to catch my eye. Ive had this mole for a long time (5-10 years) but I've just started looking at it recently and it is darker than my other moles and probably the biggest one on my body. I'm not sure if it's changed or not because I've just started paying attention to it. I don't want to go back to the docs as I feel like he'll be getting annoyed at me now and I just want to break the cycle and get over my HA.

It is sending me insane, I literally cannot stop checking it every day and googling it.

    Should I get it checked?

    Please help.

If you're worried, get it checked and get a body mole check at the same time. You're paying your Dr so don't worry about what they think. Some moles can grow and still be benign.

It's looks OK to me but I'm not a Dr. I do have a lot of odd shaped moles too, but I get a yearly check to make sure they're fine.

I've spoken to the doctor who has given me appointment with the dermatologist on the 9th June as it looks like a dark irregular mole.

I'm really worried now. Why would he send me to the dermatologist if it wasn't serious?

    CYA medicine and reassurance.

Both my brother and I have had irregular ones removed and they've been fine. The Dr's aren't specialists so they refer you on if they're not sure, which is what they should do.

I’m sure it’s just a ‘belt and braces’ approach to send you the dermatologist’s way - they will have guidelines to follow. Try not to worry. The real question is how to treat the disproportionate anxiety it’s caused you!

Just wanted to keep people informed that I've seen the dermatologist.

She said it's a dysplastic nevi. She said it does look a little different to my others and slightly bigger but she said if I've had it for 5 years then it should be okay if it hasn't really changed. She said it is pretty symmetrical with a single colour. She's happy to keep an eye on it and get it checked in 4 months to see if it's changed.

She said she wouldn't let me leave the hospital if it was something to be really worried about and would have got it taken off and checked if she was really concerned. I was given the option but I have to trust her.

    Is that good news?

Based on what she said, what is the answer to your question? (Its a 'yes' or 'no' answer).
