It can also be a time for idiots throwing eggs at your house as a trick. Teenagers and younger adults causing trouble.

I think the Irish might celebrate it a lot more though given it's their event. It will give Joe Biden something to pretend he has a clue about Northern Ireland

Is it still called Samhain over there? To my knowledge, the adults over there have a lot of parties where they get drunk and have sex too.

Here we also have Dia de los Muertos, day of the Dead. It's a Mexican celebration of life and remembrance of those who have passed on. Even though not everyone out here is Mexican, almost everyone celebrates it. I go visit lots of altares that weekend, even though I'm Jewish.

That sounds like any other Irish celebration to me Yes, I think so unless they are over here where it's probably lost to the commercialism.

That Mexican celebration looks a fantastic event with lots of effort put in.

The thing is Vee, us English did a lot of terrorising back in the day. Particularly King Edward I who conquered Wales (sorry guys) and caused a lot of problems for our Scottish friends (sorry again). We've caused problems in Ireland too.

LOL Oh, I totally understand why they used to hate you all... Now they just call you "stuck up". Edward I also kicked my people out of England. But that's been awhile... I don't hold it against you

Were they Irish American? Irish people are well ingrained into GB as they've been coming here to work for a long time. I'm too young to remember the anti Irish signs in boarding house windows and much of the bigotry they faced. I'm old enough to remember the IRA campaigns though and how that has added to hate against both NI & ROI.

I can't say I've ever met an Irish person who disliked us. Loads of Brits holiday over there and say it's great. But there are certainly areas you wouldn't go into as a Brit (or protestant, Catholic, nationalist, unionist, etc). But there are places in Scotland like that too.

They do love a drink though! That is something I can say for any Irish person I've known and I only saw it as a positive Sticking a pint of Guinness with a whisky chaser on the flag wouldn't get derided imo. The same is often said about the Scots. It's beer down here which probably is a big no no to you guys since it's warm not chilled.

Have they met proper Brits? Unlike our international stereotype of Hugh Grant posh plonkers there's a reason why we've got a bad reputation for being holiday beer louts. In many places in Europe you can find a Brit throwing up in a gutter with a kebab in their hand heading back into a boozer...and then there are the blokes

I dunno Terry. I know 3 Irish people, and they've all moved here from Ireland. One is a coworker of mine who teaches World History; another is a friend of a friend and I only see him at the bar LOL. The other one is very young and is a waitress. She's a former student.

Well, 2020 is some year. We're having 35 mph winds right now, with gusts 60 mph. That's almost hurricane force. We have a fire that's now broken out on the hillside of our county :/ Some of my friends and coworkers are having to evacuate. I'm cleaning up the house now in case someone needs to spend the night. No air support on the fire because planes are grounded due to the winds. 60,000 ordered to evacuate.

Well, a second fire has started now in Orange County. The sky is back to looking like twilight. Ash covers everything. Intermittent power outages. The meteorologists are saying one more day of winds. We are ordered to stay inside again, as I live in the dark purple area. I have to stay positive. I know things could always be worse.
