    Anxiety with developing Tourettes

Hey, have anyone had this anxiety/Fear ?? I feel like I am losing the plot now!! Petrified I can just develop it through the fear of having it.
Health anxiety is literally the devil :(
I've done quite well recently. Since this fear I've become non fearful of cancer etc. Crazy what the brain can do!
I'd like someone to confirm they've had this fear and the have overcome it just to slap me back in my place *sighs*

I don't know if you're the only one to fear this specific condition, but this site is full of people who are scared of contracting any number of variety of illnesses, so you're not alone. I will say though, you can't just "develop" Tourettes randomly.

What are you doing to treat your HA OCD?

Thank you so much for replying.
I did have a Google ( I know which i shouldn't) and they do say it's usually started in childhood or early adolescence and usually only affects men ( which has calmed me down a bit )
I know it's absurd but it's like my brain will fixate on something and then it takes weeks for me to get passed it! I've got awful tension now from panic attacks the last few days.
I've had therapy and it didn't help much. I've been prescribed sertraline but too worried to take it thinking it will alter stuff in my brain and cause even more problems!
Crazy I know. Wish I could find another treatment for it.

Well, you have to be willing to do the work in therapy and try the medication for either of them to work. Have you read in the medication forums on this website? There's lots of good tips there for starting medication. I've been on Lexapro for over 6 years now and I love it.

I haven't as of yet but I will take a look at that.
I've never heard of that one. Do you take it for health anxiety ? I know in the long run it would help taking medication but I was hoping to combat it other ways which obviously aren't helping. I've actually been alright recently until this one! I do get periods where I'm ok and then it triggers! Ive calmed down a bit now but it do really set me off sometimes! Keeping myself busy always helps.
    I will look into lexapro!

Talk to your doc and panic_down_under in the medication section and read there before you try something.

i take it for GAD and PTSD.

Remember, these meds work by building up in your system. They aren’t like taking aspirin for a headache. Also, once you give them time to build up in your system, you still may need to adjust your dosage.

Thank You , i will definitely have a word with doctor as it's driving me mad. Do you think it's helped ? I'm worried I'm going to become dependent on them.

    Re: Anxiety with developing Tourettes

The thing I hate most about my anxiety is how irrational it is. I normally am so rational it's scary. Truly, I really need to loosen up a bit. Then, something will happen and all the sudden I'm sure I'm dying because "maybe I didn't blink but really went blind for a second" even though I totally remember blinking. Sometimes I wonder where my brain gets this stuff.

I don't fear Tourettes, but I fear lots of things. I get it, and I'm sorry you are going through this. Have you seen the movie "What About Bob?" Bob or maybe the young boy in the movie is afraid of getting Tourettes. I love that movie. It makes me laugh. Maybe it will make you laugh.

Hang in there. You are going to get through this.

What's wrong with being dependent on them? Diabetics are dependent on insulin. Asthmatics are dependent on inhalers and/or medication. It's not different than taking meds for other medical conditions.
