Lumps up bottom - can piles hang around for a long time?

I have what I think are hemmorhoids just inside and I have had them for 6-7 years. Everything online seems to imply they only last days/weeks.

Anyone else suffer from them long-term? Or should I be worried?

Just to be clear, these are the exact same bumps hanging around and not new ones coming and going.

    Thanks, Nicola.
Even the exact same lumps? Not new ones coming and going?
Mine are just inside so thet are internal not external if that makes any difference.

My piles came from carrying and heaving out two chunky babies. I get a flare up when I start straining on the loo. Some people can be rid of their piles in a matter of days to be sure, but that's not the case for everybody. Also, the bigger the pile, the longer it will take to go down. I've had my fair share of fingers up my bum (including my own) and I know how crap it can be. It's literally a pain in the arse!
