    Itchy, sore anus

So I'm not asking for a diagnosis as I will reluctantly be seeing my gp. But in the meantime I need to offload if that's ok? I am really starting to worry. I've had pruritus ani (itchy anus) for years, sometimes for a month or so and it always went away. Since the beginning of 2020 however I've had barely a month when I wasn't itchy. Mostly at night. I got canesten from gp. It worked for a while then back again followed by an absess. I have been referred to a consultant as I've been told abscesses tend to reoccur. This is considered non urgent. Got an antibiotic and then some daktacort and a couple of other creams. They all work for a while. Now I am itchy again but starting to feel sore and tender around what I think is the coccyx. It feels swollen and maybe what feels like a lump but inside the skin. I beginning to worry it's more serious than a harmless itch. Can anyone relate? I don't think it's hemorrhoids btw.

As you said, you're seeing your Dr/specialist who will be able to help you further. Some people (I'm one) are allergic to certain types of toilet paper but there are lots of different products available.

All sorts of chemicals in loo roll which will give you gyp if you're sensitive. My bot-hole was getting sore (I have vaginal atrophy which also affects the bum hole) so I started to use Panda loo roll and I've had no issues since.

Thanks for the replies. I'm seeing my gp today. I am really trying not to spiral and to stay calm. I just can't get rid of the niggly fear that this is more serious than piles or an absess. Wish me luck.

    Itchy, sore anus

Is it regularly every few weeks? Have you treated for worms? I know it’s an icky topic but it’s very common.

I had considered that Scass but apparently it's just hemorrhoids. Can't say I'm entirely satisfied as I didn't feel the examination was that thorough and the word anxiety was mentioned. I got the feeling the doctor thought the long term itch was psychological. But it's being treated as piles so I am hoping for the best. Thanks for your reply.

Why are you not satisfied with the examination? I take it your GP gave you the obligatory fingering up the bum?

Piles make your bum itch, and anxiety will amplify the sensation.

Try the Panda roll. Bathe only in water (no bubble bath) and try not to focus on ya bum.

I feel a bit better today about things. Yesterday was just a bad day. I never use bubble bath or showergel there only Epsom salts or emollient cream prescribed by the doctor.

Thanks I'll keep an eye out for panda toilet roll.
