Thread: Covid vaccine nightmare

    Covid vaccine nightmare

    Hi,

I have a severe extreme phobia of injections just thinking about it sends me into a panic attack. Had to have diazepam to post this. The last time I tried having a injection was 6 years ago when was in hospital. The staff didn’t believe me that I had phobia I screamed so loudly people came running. The scream was out of pure terror at thought of having one. They couldn’t do it in the end.

Add to that myself and one other in my support bubble are classed as high risk for covid. There is a lot of pressure for me to do it. But I can’t do the injection as it’s making me physically ill just at the thought of having it. If it were just me high risk in my support bubble I would rather die of covid than have the vaccine.

I have no clue what to do or who to turn to.

This is one of those situations where you just have to 'suck it up'

The injection takes 20 seconds, a panic attack lasts 20 minutes.

Small price to pay for not dying or not infecting/killing somebody.

You're making a mental problem out of it that's way out of proportion to the actual event. Trying and stop using melodramatic language. Deal with the anxiety, not with the anxiety trigger.

If you're in a high-risk category like myself, realistically I see you have two options. Assuming you're under 65, it's looking increasingly likely that the likes of us won't be vaccinated until Easter, which is the first week of April.

This gives you three months to try and find a way of conquering (or at least diminishing) that fear you have so that when the time comes, you are able to face it.

Or... you don't have the vaccine and just continue to take steps to protect yourself from getting infected with Covid. This may well mean living the life you have now for the next, maybe two years or so until levels in the community have fallen greatly - so that means keeping at least 2m away from others and wearing a face covering outdoors along with practising good hand hygiene.

So you say you would rather die than have a needle 🤔 lt wouldn't be a wise choice would it to die, but if you don't have the needle well you may possibly get your wish
