    Lumpy tissue in pubic area

    Hi All

Like many, I suffer with bad health anxiety. It’s taken varying forms over the last few years but most recently I am struggling with a lump.

2 months ago I had a period that was 2 days longer than usual, and increased discharge. Not much, but I usually don’t have much at all. I spoke to the doctor who said it’s normal for variations and I’m just worrying because I’m stressed out at the moment, which can also lead to period irregularities.

It helped a bit but later that night I found myself in the shower digging around my pelvis looking for lumps, and I found one. There is a maybe 1 inch bit of lumpy tissue to the left above my pubic bone. It’s not visible from the surface and it moves slightly if you push it. It’s not a node. I felt the other side and there are very small bits of tissue that feel the same but nowhere near as big.

After a month of worrying I saw the doctor who felt it and said “that’s just scar tissue!” then immediately changed her mind and said “actually, it’s a cyst. Verb common. Superficial and mobile, nothing for you to worry about!” She said it’s nowhere near my ovaries as it’s it’s too far down.

Anyway, I’m STILL worried. Can a family doctor /. GP really diagnose a cyst just from feeling it? She didn’t ask me any questions or even check anywhere else in the area, just this lumpy tissue.

I don’t know if I should get a second opinion or not. I’m really scared.

A few years ago, I noticed something similar as I had pain in my pelvis following a miscarriage. I had to be poking in (lying down) to feel it but it felt hard. Just above pubic bone if I remember correctly and on the left hand side. There was one on the right too but nowhere near as pronounced. Off I went to the GP thinking they would say 'oh its bone, its a cyst etc etc'...nope. All I got was more confusion and a recommendation for a ultrasound. Had the ultrasound, nothing came up. I did google it and I *think* I found that a muscle lay where mine was so left it as that given nothing showed on the US. Not sure if that helps, but if it moves then thats usually a good sign. I do think GPs have a pretty good idea about these things and if they are unsure, they will recommend a specialist look at it.

Sorry to hear what you went through.

It is reassuring to know nothing showed up. Mine is easily felt whilst standing, less so when lying down. I did have a baby in Feb 2020 and the lump is about an inch from an incision I had about five years ago, maybe the stretching and healing of that combined with the scar tissue created this.

I just don’t know if I should get a second opinion.

I just had a poke around and I have a few things that are movable, feels like a big jelly bean around pelvic area when standing. I had a c-section 15 months ago so just assumed it was scar tissue as I think there is two incisions - one to the skin and another to the muscle (yuck!). Sounds like its the same?

Actually... yes, that is what it feels like. That’s actually reassuring, thank you. No incisions to my muscles though, didn’t have a c section myself though I thought it was heading that way!

4 years ago I found something just you're describing. I ran to my gynecologist, she felt it and saud it's scar tissue.

To anyone reading this, I’ve since had pelvic ultrasound with a consultant radiologist and everything was normal
