Imho, the TCAs amitripyline and imipramine are better meds than the 2 most common SNRIs, venlafaxine (which is really only a SSRI) and duloxetine. In particular I'd avoid venlafaxine. It has a very short half-life which can induce severe withdrawal symptoms when quitting.

Edited to add - my blood results showed only one abnormal - low Eosinophil (may be caused by excessive cortisol?)
It is the most likely explanation. What did your GP say?
