Worried I may have got arthritis

    Hey everyone.

I regularly exercise (5 days a week with a mixture of weights and cardio) and three weeks ago I bought myself some new weights for my home set up. I used to lift a lot more when I was at the gym, but these are the heaviest I've used in a while.

A few days later after using them I started to get pain in both my thumbs - in the knuckle and ball of the digits themselves. They ache and and give sharp pain when I sometimes do mundane tasks such as doing my jeans up, or carrying my laptop.

Having looked at the symptoms of arthritis, it says that it usually appears in the same spot on both sides of the body. Since I've got pain and achiness in both thumbs, I'm terrified now I've got this from going heavier than I'm used to and wont ever be pain free again :(

Having just reachced 37 I've started to become more aware of my body and the limits I can now push it. Have I gone too far and broken it beyond repair?

IMO.... No... you strained some muscles/joints. Relax, back off, let it resolve and adjust accordingly.

    Positive thoughts

Self diagnosis and massive overreaction. Those are the things you need to be concerned with, not arthritis.

Don't google, don't assume the melodramatic worst case scenario because you have a bit of pain after exercise.

Gets a lot worse the other side of 40, trust me
