    Exclamation Self harm thoughts

    Hello, I am struggling to manage thoughts of self harm. Haven't acted on them for a month but really struggling they are constant even in my dreams. How do others manage them or is self harm just going to be a part of my day to day life forever? I have been doing it for 17 years so far so most of my life. Any advice support or kind words are appreciated thank you

    Yes, many different ones over the years but still the urges are there at the moment every day

    Yeah, I've known several people over the years who've struggled with this. Are you keeping a journal? Sometimes writing the thoughts down instead helps give some of the catharsis that cutting provides.

    Yeah it is really difficult. I do use a journal to write bits and bobs down and I think its why I find using this beneficial as a way to express how I am feeling. I would just love to life without the thoughts but I am not sure this will ever happen for me

    Are you on medication? Meds really help with my intrusive thoughts. I'll still have them once in awhile, but I don't dwell on them and they don't cycle in my head until I can't take it any more. I take 20 mg of escitalopram daily, and I don't think I would've made it through this pandemic without it.

    Yeah I am on quite a bit of medication and similarly to you I know I would have struggled immensely without it. Glad to hear this is working for you and you are feeling in control

    Are you due a meds review with your psychiatrist soon? Might be worth asking to bring your appointment forward if not.
