    Unhappy COVID anxiety

    Hi everyone,

My apology if this is not the right forum but, I badly needed help. Recently, my sister was diagnosed with diabetes. The problem is she was vaccinated one month ago. Now, we are worried what would be the side effect of the vaccine on her medications. Have anyone of you encountered the same? I'm so concerned that it may worsen her condition and medicine intake would be limited. I'm afraid I might lose her on the process and watching news about increasing number of COVID gives me panic attacks. Please share your thoughts on what we need to do...

You've not said what medication she's on, but it would seem that you are far more likely to survive Covid as a diabetic if you're vaccinated than if you're not.

As far as I know (having not had any recent blood tests) the vaccine has no effect upon medications used for treating type II diabetes.

She was given Basaglar as medication. I hope there ain't any adverse effect of the C-vaccine to her medication.
And just a bit of seque, I have read a report the other day, that women tend to be more depressed and anxious due to Covid infection compared to males. Doing some more reading regarding this. Any thoughts why did they come up with this assessment?

I have no idea what medication she is on but both my grandparents are diabetic and they both have been fully vaccinated and they didn't have any issues. It's good that she's vaccinated with diabetes!

Are your parents showing side effects? If none, do not scan their body looking for symptoms. This behavior reinforces your worries and will increase anxiety.

The vaccine doesn't interact with medicine for diabetes. The vaccine just teaches cells to deal with covid, leaving them fully equipped incase they are exposed to the virus. There's no way it would react with diabetes medication.

In fact, its great news that your sister has been vaccinated! She is protecting herself against covid, which can be serious in unvaxxed people with diabetes (not with everybody, but it is a risk factor). Now she's had the vax she has lowered her risk a lot.

My dad has diabetes, and I was very relieved when he had his vaccines. Since having them, he's had a few check ups and he is doing better than ever.

Now, there are stable. I'm just worried that I may catch covid along the way and spread it at home unknowingly. Do you have co-morbidities also at home? How do you handle it?

That's good to hear that your grandparents are okay. What vaccines were given to them? Is it Pfizer or J&J?
