I had an elderly (soon to be retired) male gynae consultant - who sat in his big office and I kid you not, the b'stard SMILED as he told me that I had ZERO chance of ever becoming pregnant again!

    I was 39!!

"Take HRT for ten years" was the sum of his advice.

I didn't take the HRT because of a cancer risk in my family, not that he ever enquired. Plus, I've been taken off the pill each time I tried it..

I've never forgotten it. Who the hell smiles at a woman as he's telling her that she's in ovarian failure?

What a creep! Poor you. I have to say I'm always wary of why so many men choose gynae as a specialism. Yes, in many cases it may be as a result of losing a relative to a gynae cancer etc but for some it just seems to be for condescending reasons.

[QUOTE=erincassells;2023454]I'm in perimenopause and my guts are unhappy too. I've read with hormone fluctuations that digestion slows due to low stomach acids and also the hormone decrease of estrogen and prgesterone creates slow motility in the bowels. So...for me I have intermittent near constant reflux, 4-5 day constipation and severe bloating...regardless of diet/water intake. High stress also slows digestion which affects all movement in bowels.

I'm also appalled at how little male and female doctors alike know about perimenopause or menopause.

    It's a blast so far.
