Can someone help me understand my breast ultrasound results?

The report says:
No solid breast mass bilaterally.
3 x 4 x 2mm cyst within the right breast 9 o clock 2 cm FN.
No abnormal axillary lymph nodes.

Conclusion
Right breast cyst. No solid breast mass.

I'm still worried because it doesn't say what kind of cyst it is. What if it's cancerous? They didn't recommend any follow up.

Also what does FN mean? When I google it says FN means fat necrosis which Is an inflammatory thing but then my friend who does radiology reports says it means 'from nipple', as in the cyst is 2cm from the nipple.
I'm confused and scared. I got an ultrasound 8 months ago that was normal. Now suddenly I have a cyst? Is it because I recently had my period or was recently pregnant?
I'm almost 30 and cancer worries are taking over my life. :(

You have a radiologist friend, why would you want some non-radiologist strangers to tell you what it means ? I'm not trying to be rude, but pointing out the obvious here, she is more qualified. Also, I'm wondering, why would you just be given the written report and not have a conversation with the doctor/specialist who tells you what they have found ? Here is an article to read in full -

You have absolutely no reason to be confused or scared, this is an absolutely totally fine report just with one very tiny cyst.

They didn't recommend any follow up.

Cysts are really really common, they are irrelevant unless they cause symptoms. Radiologists are highly skilled and can tell when a cyst is a cyst, in many cases it is simple to diagnose a cyst if it follows the pattern for totally benign tissue or fluid filled. IF there had been any query at all that this tiny cyst contained some abnormal cells they would be doing a biopsy. They don't take chances - so they must be absolutely certain. (I suspect your friend is absolutely right about 'From Nipple', as they have already detailed the size of the cyst and that is the only finding there was on the ultrasound - so it must be 2 cm FN from nipple)

I always think that, if you genuinely are worried, why ask a bunch of unqualified strangers on an anxiety website a complex medical issue? It's the age old issue with health anxiety. Recently I've responded to two posts, giving reassurance after nobody else did. Both times I was ignored, you wonder why you bother!

It hasn't even been a week since these results and I just found a lot ot white stuff in my nipple. I kind of have been getting it on and off over the the few months but what I just found was a large amount. I keep reading stories about ultrasounds missing cancer and now I'm terrified all over again. :( Anxiety is pure torture.

Nipple discharge is a typical part of breast function during pregnancy or breast-feeding. It may also be associated with menstrual hormone changes and fibrocystic changes. The milky discharge after breast-feeding usually affects both breasts and can continue for up to two or three years after stopping nursing.

Clear, cloudy, or white discharge that appears only when you press on your nipple is usually normal. The more the nipple is pressed or stimulated, the more fluid appears. Yellow, green, or brown discharge is not normal and may be a symptom of an infection or other problem.

Health anxiety is something that you can take control of. Repeating the types of things that reassure yourself over and over, like the sorts of things I wrote in my original post.

It did read the link and appreciate your response. But my pregnancy was only 8 weeks along before it ended and this was in march. Surely I shouldn't still be physically effected by it. I dread having to go to the drs again over this.

Yes, you can be physically affected by the hormones shifting around still - it takes months and months for everything to return to 'normal' levels and as you've said this discharge has gone on for a few months. I am very sorry that your pregnancy didn't go well, and maybe that is why you are finding you are so terribly anxious, because traumatic events and stress can affect your hormones further, along with the post pregnancy hormones. I didn't breastfeed after my pregnancy, but it took a year for discharge to stop and periods resume. Your ultrasound is absolutely perfect, a tiny cyst is nothing of concern and yet again can be caused by hormone shifts. They have checked your lymph nodes as well, and they are perfectly healthy.

Thanks for your responses and reassurance. Really appreciate it. I'm working on managing my anxiety but it's been a challenge. Hoping to get this health anxiety under control as it's taking over my life.
