Holiday Anxiety - Feel like a Snowflake!

Excuse the title, guys. But right now I feel like I need to bloodywell MAN UP!

Thought I'd write a little post about it.

My hubby is currently in need of a new kidney. As we've expected it for so long, it hasn't come as a huge shock or even change at this stage.

I'm coordinating trying to find a donor amongst friends and family, running a Facebook page etc. NO PROBLEM!

However, we're off camping on Thursday (as we do regularly) and suddenly I'm all anxious about terrible things that might happen to ME!

What if this happens? What if that happens? Will I die?

    GIVE ME STRENGTH!

I know why this has happened, however. After losing her darling Dad several years ago, my lovely Mum clung onto me in fear of losing me as well. She went through a long phase of panicking about me while I was away. A few years on and she has stopped, but I now think - well she must have reason to panic. Surely something terrible could happen!

I'm angry at myself for giving in to my thoughts and emotions.

Has anyone got any advice to shut me up please?

Not trying to shut you up, but be kind to yourself?

Yes, your fears are irrational, but that's because you're currently suffering from anxiety, which is hardly surprising given all that you currently have on your plate.

Sending love and positive vibes to you and your family.

What are you scared of happening in particular whilst you're away?

    The current heatwave?
    Catching Covid?
    Being a victim of crime?
Witnessing or experiencing anything else 'untoward'?

Thank you so much! Perhaps you're right. I never really think I'm anxious about the bigger stuff. It's always the little things that chip away. xx

    Hi Lencoboy,

Thanks for replying! That's a great question!

Covid, no. Heatwave, perhaps a little? Though it does seem to be settling down end of week.

I think its more a fear of a freak accident of some sort. Having a heart attack or something completely random like that!

I'm so glad you said 'irrational'. That helps to be honest.

    How do you rationalise it?

By acknowledging that I have a mental health condition that sometimes makes me believe things that aren't true.

You have taken on a significant responsibility in terms of co ordinating that search for a potential kidney donor for your husband...He will be relying on you. If anything happens to you on holiday (or i would suggest anywhere?) then you will lose control of the situation and you can't afford to do that. You have to protect your health at all costs for him? Just my take on it?

Your mum has planted the seeds of worry about going away and potential doom. You can't let that happen and need to stay "safe". Being away from home makes safety seem a bit more precarious?

Yes, I think a lot of it can be the fear of the unknown.

What if nothing bad happens and you have a really great time?

You're going through a really stressful time so it's understandable that you have these thoughts. You'll be ok..
