    Mastitis or ibc

    Hi everyone,

Literally 6 days ago I had a 3d mammogram of my left breast (unclear first mammogram of left breast), and ultrasound. All clear. I'm 41 and the mammogram/ultrasound privately out of an abundance of caution.
5 days later I had a small red patch, a day later it now covers a quarter of my left breast and is very very obvious.

What the heck is going on? To make matters worse, I'm on holiday abroad for the next two weeks. Anxiety is escalating.

Some sort of skin condition possibly set off my the mammo or ultrasound, gel used or scratching afterwards - fungal ? Dermatitis ? Complex stuff skin and many things could cause this. Sounds like it needs something topical - I'd get that sorted asap today.......see a GP or pharmacist as it sounds like its going to cause problems quickly. IBC - NO.

Thank you Carys. I've been to the GP today and have been prescribed antibiotics. Fingers crossed it clears up soon!

I'm on day 3 and the antibiotics don't seem to be working. And they're powerful ones apparently. Trying hard not to let anxiety overtake me, but I have this horrible dread feeling in my gut 😔. I'm on holiday for another 9 days. It's unbearable... And I want to come back and see a specialist to find out what's going on ASAP. Of all the times to get this I'm out of the country. 😭

I've seen this before Starburst - this only means its not an infection/the right treatment maybe - there are fungal and other skin/tissue complaints that need different treatment. There, to my mind, seems to be cause and effect from the Mammo/Ultrasound and this strange red spreading patch, and not in a sinister way (because that was ALL clear and fine !!!!). I understand how triggered you must feel but I sometimes these strange sudden changes like this just need the right treatment. I can't guess what is causing this, but I do know that only a few days ago the best medical screening possible gave you an entire all-clear, so whatever it is is not where your mind is taking you.....

Hi Starburst - hope all was ok. How did you get on with the antibiotics? I found a pimple on my breast two weeks ago which has turned into an irritated red patch. I have antibiotic cream - am on day two but still it’s not working/going to work and am trying to stop myself going down the Google IBC rabbit hole and checking myself constantly.
