Blood test results results / lump in neck

Hi I have a pretty long history of HA since having my second child 8 yrs ago. It started when she was 2 yrs old. Fast forward 7 years I have had to live with lots of symptoms that the doctors throbbed off as anxiety. So for years I have restricted breathing, usually at night time. I had a lot of symptoms but because of HA I never googled them, a few weeks ago I noticed a lump on my thyroid, I stupidly googled and then ran to the doctors begging to be seen (Luckily I have a lovely doctor) She did say it looked like a goiter and was swollen. She asked about my symptoms which indicated I may have a Thyroid problem (If it was it had been there for years). The physical symptoms was all pointing to under active Thyroid. Had blood test TSH came back normal, then I looked at My full blood tests results on my NHS APP and completely freaked out when I saw my white blood was 11.4 (Meant to be under 11). So now I am thinking I have either Leukemia or Thyroid cancer (us HA sufferers think the worst scenario ay). I have even got it in my head that I have Leukemia and its so big its covering my whole neck Any way the Blood test results said the doctor has clicked satisfactory even though a couple was raised. Can any one please give me some kind words to help me calm down, this site has really helped me in the past because people understand what we are going through. Everyone I know keep telling me to calm down and wait for scans/ results.

I do have ENT next week thats only because I begged the doctor to do it as urgent they wasnt even going to. Any advice about bloods/thyroids would be great. Forgot to add I have had three docs check my lymph nodes and they was normal, I dont even know how to.

    Hello jo569
Sorry to hear you going through this worry. I know how that feels. Usually, .4 over is not something to be concerned about, it may be that you have a slight infection/inflammation somewhere in the body or it may just be normal for you. They are only numbers calculated from the general population, there are always going to be people over/under. Since it is a cancer of the bone marrow, where the blood cells are made, Leukaemia causes cells to be abnormal, which pathologists/haematologists will pick up on the blood sample (they pop some blood on a slide and look under a microscope to count the cells). Hope this helps

I understand that dealing with health anxiety can be very challenging and can cause a lot of distress. It is good to hear that you have a supportive doctor who is taking your concerns seriously and has ordered tests to investigate your symptoms.

It is important to remember that not all abnormalities in blood tests indicate a serious illness. There can be many reasons why a blood test result is slightly outside the normal range, including factors such as stress or inflammation. It is also important to consider the context of the test results and any other symptoms you may be experiencing.

Regarding your thyroid, it is not uncommon for thyroid problems to go undiagnosed for a long time. It is good that you have an appointment with an ENT specialist, and I would advise you to discuss any concerns or questions you may have with them.

It is also important to try to manage your health anxiety during this time. One thing that may be helpful is to limit your exposure to health-related information online, as this can often increase anxiety. It may also be helpful to practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or mindfulness, or to engage in activities that you enjoy and find distracting.

Remember, your doctor is there to support you and will provide you with more information and guidance as your test results come back. Try to stay positive and focus on the present moment.
