Blood on toilet paper. HELP! 🩸

Hi everyone. I’ve been worried about my bowel for a while now. I used the obsessively check my stool but stopped that now and flush before I can see. However, today I saw quite a lot of blood on the toilet paper on the first wipe.

It was red blood and looked separate to the brown poop (i.e not mixed in). The rational part of me thinks it’s piles but I was surprised that there was no blood on subsequent wipes - just the first.

Sometimes I see small amounts of blood at the very end of a wipe (which doesn’t worry me), but this was a larger amount on the first wipe.

Has anyone experienced this or reassure me it isn’t something more worrisome? I don’t want to go back to obsessively checking my stools again!

Hi Ellvee,

As someone who has had piles, I have definitely experienced this, and same as you its not on every wipe.
Sometimes I'll even go months with seeing nothing, then randomly have a large amount of blood.
As well as piles you can sometimes get fissures which will show more blood and be a lot more red in colour!
I can reassure you it MUST be that as you sound exactly like me!

PS Give yourself credit for not checking your stool anymore, that's a big step for your anxiety, I know how hard it can be.

Thanks Elise. Without TMI, I went to the bathroom again and it was fine, so feeling a bit better

Yes, it has happened to me in the past. I get irritated easily there, so my doctor explained to me it's hemorrhoidal blood. Bye!
