    Missing that anxiety feeling!?

I have had GAD now for the last 3 1/2 years. For the last week I have had a really bad cold which I just seem to be getting over. During this time I have not experienced any anxiety feelings. This occured to me today, I was thinking how much better I was feeling and how relaxed I was, this then made me think that my breathing must be good and therefore my anxiety levels really low. I then found myself being too aware of my breathing resulting in me hyperventilating and feeling really anxious again[Duh!].
I find I can pootle along somedays without giving my GAD a second thought and then all of a sudden I get a feeling like I have forgotten something or I notice that I am feeling happy and then whooosh I realise it's anxiety that is missing and I feel anxious! Is it possible to actually miss that anxious feeling after living with it every day for so long?

glad to hear you been feeling so well apart from the cold that is! i think it gets to the stage that we become used to being the way we are so dont notice it much i have done well to fight the panics and now i think about why i didnt have one at certain times when you had it so long it will feel as though somethings missing when you dont have it

I don't know about 'missing' it, but we certainly improve gently and realize that we are better.

Then we dwell on that for a bit and just by those thoughts remind ourselves of how it was.

I think that we become so used to it that we think something must be wrong when it's not there. I'm sure you will get used to it though!!

Well done! Just as Sarah says above we often miss something when it's gone, even when it's an all round pain in the >(insert appropriate body part here)<

Great news and I hope you soon get used to feeling so much better!

    All the best

    HI There,

I get this feeling a lot now.
I get Days when Relaxation seems to be there for some time.

Lovely feeling while it's there, however, because were not used to it,
it does not take long for MR Anxiety to show him self.

If we realise that this IS part of the Recovery Programme, then
we will not worry too much.

This way, as Meg has said, the good Relaxing times
do get longer and longer, so try not too worry.

    Keep Positive.

I'm really glad you have broken the back of it, KT.

After having GAD for about four months, I found last spring that my good spells were getting longer, up to nearly three weeks.

I then had a set back in about October and have been struggling a bit over the winter months.

I really hope that this spring I can bounce back and teach my brain how to react better.

    Take Care

    Ray
