I had my first screening colonoscopy today because, well, I'm that age - posting just to let people know I opted to do it with no sedation or drugs at all (not the usual in the U.S.) and it was completely painless and fine. I actually appreciated having the opportunity to watch and discuss with the doctor during the procedure.

There was only mild discomfort toward the end when gas was added for better view but I would describe it only as gas/trapped wind and certainly not painful. Entire procedure took 20 minutes from in to out.

I used Sutab for the prep and it worked very well. Highly recommended.

This is an easy and important diagnostic procedure. No reason to fear it at all.
