I totally feel glad not to be ranting about Resident Evil any longer, because these people on-line are sort of the reason as to why Capcom keeps doing garbage games. The whole franchise just gets milked like crazy in any case. But it's not just gaming. Look at Hollywood, novelists, and the music industry. It's pathetic.

All they seem to enjoy doing is remaking everything from (insert time period).

I kind of agree with what you're saying Peter.

A lot of it IMO is down to pure laziness from both creators and consumers and indeed nostalgia porn.

I've never got this craze for musical artists murdering many classic albums and singles by completely re-recording them from scratch in order to meet expected 21st Century standards without grasping the basic concept of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it', though I suppose in fairness it could sometimes be down to copyright ownership issues between artists and their former record labels, of which the latter party usually own the rights to the original recordings and the artists concerned may at a later date opt to re-record material for the purposes of their own rights ownership, which I reckon is probably what Taylor Swift, for example, has done recently.

I've been consuming and making a lot of it recently (Godot game engine is awesome!). I'm hugely inspired by Resident Evil and Silent Hill. I love the camera angle on RE. One thing that gave the older games more of a dark vibe was a consequence of early consoles primitive graphics. When you try to define hyperrealism in a horror game you're decreasing the horror aspect of it. If a game lacks a good story no amount of graphics will polish up the turd.

I've always been of the opinion that you can't remake a classic. You can't do better than the first. You can't improve something when its baseline is already very high. If you can't add to a storyline that improves a book/movie/game then surely it makes more sense to create something completely different instead.

Most people remember things such as video games, music releases, films, TV dramas, etc, in their original formats as per the time they were first created.

They are all in essence a kind of 'time capsule'; a 'snapshot' of their respective era. Even if the original first iterations are actually rather mediocre by today's standards or if the producers' efforts of the originals were below par, it's still what made them what they are, gave them their uniqueness and authenticity which can in most cases be extremely hard, or even nigh on impossible, to improve on.

Of course there has always been the odd lucky exceptions though, but I just hope to God there isn't a 'Band Aid 40' next Christmas murdering the 1984 charity festive classic even further!

Like I said upthread, I have sometimes been known to get disillusioned with a lot of 'remakes' and whatever later special 'editions' of many favourite musical releases over the past 25 years or so (mainly by the original artists and not necessarily later cover versions by other artists) , but now I tend to just concentrate on the original first editions as they were initially intended.

Of course, quite a few of my favourite artists over the years have had certain 'periods' that I enjoy more than others; e.g, I might only really enjoy the first 5 studio albums by group/artist X and think most subsequent offerings are pants, then conversely I might think earlier offerings from group/artist Y are pants, but most of the later offerings are incredible.

Obviously we all have our personal preferences/biases with pretty much everything in life.

Of course, scares in media is a subjective topic in any case. But the games fizzled out the horror vibes and at various times, have been straight up action.

Years ago, I loved The Walking Dead TV series. They gradually brought in loads of new characters over the course of the show. I mean loads. But not right away. You began with Rick, Carl, Maggie, Daryl and whoever else was kicking around in 2011.

By the time Rick's group got settled into that safe zone with all the surrounding communities, the series got super hard to understand over the next few years. It got to be so disjointed with how many people were introduced, good and bad. Quite frankly, I just couldn't even remember the names of a lot of the newer crowd. Then they made it the villains conceded when Negan was defeated, so they all formed a bond, and they already merged with other places. So it got even more convoluted.

There was this big black guy who was only in like, one episode. Kind of like a glorified extra, I guess, as he had dialogue. But when Maggie was addressing him, they made it seem like she had known this dude for ages. Like, what the heck? Nobody even knew who he was. So people made memes to poke fun at this crap.

The way they jumped all over the place was why I finally gave up tuning in.

While I'm not really interested in video games myself per se, I understand where you're coming from about things like memes, etc, especially those that are often rude, insulting and/or mickey-taking.

I never forget back in the very early 90s when I was bullied I was told I was 'asking for it' because I wasn't acting 'normal'.

So those who were meant to be protecting and sticking up for me were basically pandering to the genuinely thick, stupid and prejudiced of our society with seemingly little sympathy for me in said context, essentially implying that I needed to learn social/appropriate behavioural skills 'the hard way'!

But I cannot get them removed as he does it in a subtle way so not to break the rules, and Google is run by idiots anyway. Even in the event he was banned, you know they will just rejoin with another account.

Since I lost my mum last year, my heart just hasn't been in it with some things. I no longer care about celebrities and famous people, or just most people as a whole. I do enjoy their work like anyone out there does, but some famous people are jerks in reality, and I think they are made the focal point of everything too much. I also had an issue on X years ago with an 80's singer I used to listen to a lot. We fell out, and it escalated from there. After that, I realised being engrossed with big names is kind of pointless.

It is what it is. But I contacted social services, who have left me high and dry. I don't see the point in calling them again. I last contacted them back in October, but they didn't show any enthusiasm. You can just tell they don't want to know, giving the issues I faced with Autism Initiatives.

And of course, my younger sister ended up being a weirdo and a backstabber.
