anxiety over a real illness

Hi...wasn't sure where to put this. I've always suffered from health anxiety. Now, however, I have a real illness. I came home from Mexico last weekend and was diagnosed with a blood clot in my leg. Unfortunately a few days later the clot travelled and is now in my right lung. I'm really really scared. ER drs put me on blood thinners, they say I'll recover, my gp has referred me to a hematologist. I have no idea when the appt will be. Has anyone else gone through this. I'm really struggling with the anxiety over this. I have so many questions and can't get any answered until I see the hematologist. I hope someone can help.

I k ow this is old but thought I'd reply, I suffer really bad health anxiety since I lost my stepdad to a heart attack in2020, week before he died I went to hosp with chest pain, I had a blood clot they gave me blood thinners and when j had my scan they couldn't find the clot

It makes total sense to feel scared. The blood thinners are doing their job and it sounds like your doctors believe you’ll recover. While you wait for the hematologist, try jotting down every question you have and give your GP’s nurse a call-she might be able to answer a few. Lean on friends or family for support, too; talking it out can really help.
