    Anxiety about ww3

In the last couple of years since the invasion of ukraine I made sure to stay away from any news articles to avoid flaring up my anxiety, which kind of worked for a while. In the last few months however i've just been feeling very on edge. I think this has been building overtime with hearing things like national service retuning to the uk if Sunak remained as our prime minister (which didn't happen of course but the fact that it was on the cards made me nervous) and then there was trump saying on the recent debate that we are apparently very close to ww3. I'm not trying to turn this into a political debate, its just when I hear these sort of things I fear for the future and even though there's nothing I can do about it my anxiety has been killing me recently. I have stayed away from the news recently for the most part but my anxiety remains.
Is it still unlikely that we are heading for ww3 or have things changed?

While we can of course never say never to anything, it's probably worth remembering that as far as Sunak discussing the return of conscription in the UK earlier this year is concerned, it was probably said partly out of sheer desperation as he and the Tories were tanking in the opinion poll ratings ahead of our recent General Election (which was of course won by Starmer and Co.), and they were no doubt trying to appeal to more populist Right-leaning views to try to claw back votes, despite the fact that the Tories, most ironically, cut defence spending to the bone between 2010 and 2023 and finally realised that they had made a big mistake by doing so, especially as there's almost always been security threats of some kind since time immemorial. Plus the Tories often seem to be notorious for complacency and being out of touch with reality over many issues, let alone defence/security. Which is obviously one of the main reasons why they got booted out of power exactly a week ago today.

As for Trump, he's all talk most of the time, and I never forget all the hysteria he tried to whip up over ISIS/Al-Qaeda and the like at the start of his previous tenure as POTUS, adamant that they were a threat to world peace and the whole 'big wall between the USA and Mexico' debacle. I hardly take anything that deranged gobsh1te says seriously anymore.

Also remember that we have the likes of NATO and the UN; both of which alliances were set up soon after the end of the last world war whose mission was largely to set up protocols and inadvertently work together to reduce the likelihood of any future world wars occurring, plus the advent of nukes ironically are believed by many to have actually contributed to the lack of global conflicts since 1945.

While I don't personally have any definitive answers to anyone's concerns about a potential 'World War Three' (plus I, like any other remotely 'sane' person, most certainly dread the thoughts of such things ever happening, heaven forbid), I suggest you have take a peek at this site debunkingdoomsday.quora.com, which might help provide some perspective and context, even though it's still by no means definitive.

Scared again of ww3, please help

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but I'll try it anyway. I've made a couple of other threads about this subject in the past but I'm right back here after suffering 2 panic attacks this week.

I've been having panic attacks and feeling constantly anxious about the conflict in the world right now and ww3 being a possibility. I've stayed off the news as much as I can but some youtube videos have popped up and I've seen and heard a lot of people saying ww3 is gonna happen next year depending on the us election. Seeing all these videos and comments has caused me to go into panic mode and now I'm feeling completely on edge.

So I guess the question I wanna ask here is how likely is it that the UK/US are gonna end up in a direct war with Russia? Is it still really unlikely? I want to go on living my life like normal but I'm scared for my family's safety and can't live normally. I know its out of my control but I just need reassurance or something because I'm honestly losing it.

I would say very very unlikely. I think the only route to this would be if Russia invades nato countries after ukraine. I think that since the ukraine conflict has been extremely costly and far from straightforward this would not be on russia’s agenda any time soon. I worry about many things but i don’t worry about an imminent war between the US and Russia.

Thanks for replying. Yeah that's pretty much what I've always thought too. But then I went on reddit to calm myself down and only made myself worse since there's people commenting that they think we're completely doomed. It just triggers my anxiety so hard that I feel sick.

Oh I have to avoid reddit nowadays because its too toxic. We have to be very careful with what we read now, propaganda is in 'full swing' to you can't trust anything and people are in anxiety city right now; so you're not alone. Guard yourself and protect yourself.

Reddit is always full of doom and gloom, during 2020 they were practically cheerleading the end of the world with the covid outbreak.
