    BBPV... apparently

    Hi all,
So after 3 months...I see another Dr. She hardly listens (checked notes and saw I had bloods and and ECG which were fine) and goes....I'm printing you out a leaflet for BBPV. I asked why I have it and could it be from the virus ....she replied with "maybe". And that was it! I've got exercises still but is it my health anxiety that makes me think more and made me want to ask more and would a normal person felt ok with that appointment?

I asked to go up to 200mg Sertraline from 150mg and she just said....if that's what you want then I'll do it.

Hi - I don't know your symptoms other than what you have written above so I don't know how close what you are experiencing is to BPPV. I've had a lot of issues with vertigo and dizziness and stupid doctors. I have received so many different diagnoses for my vertigo. What I've learned over the years is 1) Vertigo/dizziness is very, very rarely because of something serious (such as a brain tumor), it is almost always something relatively benign but still difficult to treat; 2) It's often hard for a doctor to find the cause of vertigo/dizziness and people end up with multiple diagnoses or no diagnosis or a wrong diagnosis; 3) Doctors often give the diagnosis of BPPV as a first guess and hope that it will go way.

BPPV usully occurs suddenly when the head is turned in a certain direction, often from rolling over in bed. After a minute or two it goes away until the head is once again put in that position. Is this similar to what you are experiencing? Did she test you for it (would have you lie down with your head extended backwards and turned your head in different positions holding it there for a minute or 2 to see if there is vertigo).

You mentioned you had a virus, was this a cold/respiratory virus? That can cause vertigo. Did you symptoms start after the virus?

Symptoms started during a virus and have been there for 3 months. Some days are better than others and it feels worse when walking or up and about....can be worse when I turn my head. It's a faint feeling. I've googled...which I shouldn't and it seems this feeling can be so different in many people. Bloods and ECG were fine so I suppose the virus caused it but it's making me so depressed now.

I had the exact same thing after I had covid last year. I had a lot of ear issues in the days leading up to my positive test. I already have issues with my left ear, TMJ, etc... For about 6 months after covid I had persistent dizziness, where I just felt kind of swimmy all the time. I saw my doctor and she did a test for BPPV - something with having me lay in different positions and looking in certain directions to see if my eyes jumped (nystagmus). The test was positive for vertigo and so she performed the Epley maneuver on me - different ways of moving your head and laying down, etc... to try and reposition the crystals in my ear to relieve the vertigo. The relief wasn't as sudden (nor the symptoms as acute) as described with BPPV on the internet, but I did see some relief. I did the maneuver myself at home a few times over the next few weeks and ultimately the vertigo subsided.

I just had another bout of lots of sinus stuff and ear fullness and was feeling the same way again. I did the Epley maneuver yesterday and I'm feeling a lot better.

At the time before my doctor did think it could have been brought on by covid causing inflammation in my ears, so it makes sense that a virus could have brought this on for you. I'd look up the Epley maneuver on youtube and try it.

Thanks Eric...I've been given the Brandt Daroo exercises so will try them for a bit. I think it may be the right diagnosis as when I do them it does bring on extra dizziness which it is meant to do. I also had this feeling last year after a virus but it did not last that long. I have some days where it's not too bad. Do you feel tired when you have it?

I had the best day in months yesterday....almost felt myself. Was so excited then boom....feel awful today. I started 200mg sertraline from 150 yesterday and thought that helped but maybe that's made me feel worse short term. Ears feel so blocked...why am I like this

I had a drink last night and feel so tired today and a bit dizzy. I am no worrying it's set me back but it shouldn't should it? Surely it would just affect temporarily. I panic so much but it was for my birthday and I thought a drink wouldn't do me harm.
