    MND / ALS worry

Really didn't want to get sucked down this rabbit whole, but I've been battling this fear for the last 2/3 weeks now, however I've been tipped over the edge tonight.

A couple of weeks ago in bed, I moved over and felt like an ache or tightening in the left side of my left calf muscle, around where I believe is my peroneus muscle is. I wasn't sure if this was like an ache or a cramp.

I didn't think much of it, as I've been having hip pain on and off for a month or so, which has been quite painful and stiff at times. I thought it may be related as I've been limping around and walking awkwardly.

My hip has improved mostly now, however this left side of my calf has continued to cause me issues, and I've been getting random aches (or mild cramps - not sure) and twinges, as well as a feeling of tightness at times when walking. I've been tensing and fiddling a lot with my leg/calf area over the past few weeks to try and exacerbate symptoms, twisting my foot, tensing my foot, stretching my leg etc.

I'm really, really concerned this is the beginning of MND / ALS, and I'm starting to spiral and lose sleep over this.

    It's really not MND.

You wont believe this. Ive accepted the ankle lump is probably benign after reading a reddit thread where some people had similar issues.

However tonight I hit my elbow which hurt and triggered my funny bone, and knelt it on the kitchen table while I ate dinner. After finishing dinner I had pins and needles along with some pain in my little finger, and I cant move it properly. I tried playing guitar and I was struggling to place it in the right area!!!

Im back worrying about MND now, feel really panicked and struggling. This is the worst Ive been feeling HA wise for years. This morning I was worrying whether my legs looked swollen and spent hours looking at old pictures of me in shorts to compare.

But this MND worry is worse with the real life symptoms.

My head is gone, properly gone now. Through my obsessive checking, I've now noticed that my extensor digitorum brevis muscle on my left foot is almost completely absent compared to my right. This could be a symptom of MND but more likely Lumbar Canal Stenosis.

    Somebody help me please.

Anxiety distorts everything. Small things become big. Non-existent things take on a life of their own. Anxiety makes us find things and see things to support our belief that our worst fears are coming true but all it’s doing is robbing you of the here and now when I promise you you are very healthy. It’s horrible but this is a panic attack, just an extended one. Look at what you’re saying “obsessive checking”. If you were truly as ill as you fear it wouldn’t take obsessive checking to uncover this.

Please please believe me. I’ve been where you are and I’ve had none of the things I feared I did x

    Re: MND / ALS worry

Thanks for the kind reply Button1.

I hope you're right, it's just that this is an obvious physical symptom - an actual missing muscle, or rather a much smaller one. I have been getting leg aches and twinges on this leg as well for quite a few weeks now, so this is just another symptom to add to the evidence of having MND.

I cannot see a doctor now until at least wednesday as we're going away for the bank holiday weekend and I'm in an incredibly bad place. I really think this is MND now, my life is completely over.
