    Can we imagine sensations

    I’m at my wits end over a “ sensation” I have on my right side of my abdomen.
    The thing is when I lay down to try and pink point where it is, I can’t it seems to move around. My family say it’s just how my body feels and I’m thinking about it.
    It’s almost like a discomfort around the ribs but not pain.
    Could this just be my imagination?

    Thank you

    Re: Can we imagine sensations

    Yes, we can imagine sensations, often referred to as "mental imagery" or "sensory imagination." While most people are familiar with visual imagery (imagining a picture or scene), sensory imagination can extend to all five senses:

    • Visual: Imagining seeing a landscape, a person, or a color.
    • Auditory: Imagining hearing a song, a conversation, or ambient sounds like rain.
    • Tactile: Imagining the feeling of touch, like the softness of fabric or the warmth of the sun on your skin.
    • Olfactory: Imagining a smell, such as freshly baked bread or the scent of flowers.
    • Gustatory: Imagining a taste, like the tang of lemon or the sweetness of chocolate.

    This ability relies on memory and cognitive processes that allow us to reconstruct or simulate sensory experiences without direct external stimuli.

    I had exactly this two weeks ago now. I have no idea what caused it (I suspected brain tumour, as always) but it went away and hasn’t returned since! Nothing to worry about

    Re: Can we imagine sensations

    I would say no, it's not imagination.
    Physical symptoms of anxiety/stress are very real.......the problem is, as anxiety and particularly health anxiety sufferers, we are more attuned to every bodily sensation, hence;
    Headache = brain tumour
    Chest pain = heart problems
    Stomach pain = cancer
    Etc, etc, etc.
    Then we start getting anxious about our bodily sensations/pains, which usually creates more .
    The trick is, not to let the never ending spiral begin......easier said than done.
