    High Cholesterol Results Scared

To give a quick summary and the full blood results I got. I’m 36F, don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t drink coffee or tea, don’t drink energy drinks or sodas, just water. Normal weight, diet is normal beside maybe too much chocolate, and I’m definitely physically inactive and need to improve my exercise.

Last couple weeks I’ve been having bowel problems, so went doctors, thought it was gastroenteritis, but blood results I got today didn’t show any of that. So be thing that did set me off and made me really anxious was my cholesterol.

    LIPID Profile:
    Cholesterol 5.6 mmol/L
    Triglycerides 1.68 mmol/L
    HDL Cholesterol 1.06 mmol/L
    LDL Chol (Calc) 3.78 mmol/L
    Non-HDL Cholesterol (Calc) 4.54 mmol/L

I’m on Eltroxin 50mcg for my undersctive thyroid.
Half Beta Prograne Slow Release 80mg and Sertraline 50mg for my anxiety and depression.

My mum was recently diagnosed with it too, but I have a huge heart anxiety and recently had bad PVCs because of the fear, I had tons of ECGs and holter monitor and bloods and they were all normal, like the structure of my heart was normal etc.

But this is really bothering me but my doctor said about doing tests again in 6 months, and possibly going on medication for life if it doesn’t go down. This has kinda scared me about heart attacks and strokes now.

Here is the rest of my blood tests to give a full oversight:

    HbA1c (IFCC) 33 mmol/L

    Glucose (fasting range) 5.0 mmol/L

    Urea 3.6 mmol/L
    Creatinine 74 umol/L
    eGFR 89.0 mL/min/1.73m2

    ALT 7 U/L
    Total Bilirubin 8.1 umol/L
    Alkaline Phos. 51 U/L
    Gamma GT 10 U/L
    Total Protein 70 g/L
    Albumin 44 g/L

    TSH 1.130 mIU/L

    WBC 5.0 x10^9/L
    RBC 4.90 x10^12/L
    HB 14.5 g/dl
    HCT 0.43 L/L
    MCV 87.3 fl
    MCH 29.6 pg
    MCHC 33.9 g/dl
    Platelets 247 x10^9/L
    Neutrophils 3.42 x10^9/L
    Lymphocytes 0.96 x10^9/L
    Monocytes 0.43 x10^9/L
    Eosinophils 0.12 x10^9/L
    Basophils 0.03 x10^9/L

Toxigenic C. difficile DNA - not detected.
    Salmonella DNA - not detected.
    Shigella DNA - not detected.
    Campylobacter DNA - not detected.
Verotoxigenic E.coli DNA - not detected.
    Cryptosporidium DNA - not detected.
    Giardia DNA - not detected.

He said about the cholesterol that exercise helps, and to do more tests in 6 months and if it hasn’t gone down, then I’ll be on medication for life. My mum was recently diagnosed with high cholesterol too, but my heart fears are huge. Is it dangerously high? I’m really freaking out over this.

Can anyone make sense of these bloods and so far seems to be no major infection causing the loose bowel movements. I was on vermox or mebendazole for what was believed parasites, then I started antibiotics Flagyl on Sunday. Now I have another worry about my cholesterol.

I am in the US so I had to use an online converter to change mmol/L to mg/DL. This is what we use in the US. Your TC is not particularly bad. What is your diet like if you don't mind me asking? You can probably get your TC (total cholesterol) down with diet and exercise alone. You said you are of normal weight. How tall are you and what do you weigh? Besides the choc, tell me about the foods you mostly eat on a daily basis. I have all the heart concerns too. My DXs are GAD, PD, and severe cardiophobia, so I am always focused on my heart and it can drive me a little crazy at times.

    Re: High Cholesterol Results Scared

@Chronic911 Hi! Yeah, my weight is usually between 148-150lbs, but I’m still actively trying to get lower as I’ve put a few pounds on after I was sick, so I’m at the higher end of the normal weight range now. I’m 5”5 tall or 165cms. I have a chronic fear of heart issues too so I understand that. Hope this helps, I’ll probably be getting my cholesterol checked again in a couple months, so won’t know if it’s changed. For the past few months, I’ve had organic porridge and oat milk with sliced banana for breakfast. If not that then it’s usually scrambled eggs and whole grain toast with cholesterol lowering butter. Lunch can vary, sometimes a yoghurt, fruits like apples or grapes, walnuts and almonds, other days it can be some whole grain vegan waffles, which are very low fat and low in saturated fats too, I don’t have any toppings. Other days lunch can be some chocolate. Dinner varies, usually potatoes, either jacket/baked/boiled or mashed, with vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, peas, sweetcorn, carrots etc. I don’t eat much meat honestly, and I have quorn alternatives. Pasta, soups, air fryer wedges with skins. It’s the evening when I get peckish, and have chocolate, usually snack sized ones, one or two but I do stop there. I drink lots of water. Last couple months I’ve been snacking more than usual, either on chocolate peanut butter cups or my own homemade banana bread. So a little indulgent after I was sick, so I put back on a few pounds. But I’ve also been stressed lately so I snack again. Exercise can vary, I’ve been extremely tired due to family stuff, but I do a lot of housework for my mum as she’s disabled, running errands, I walk our dog, do the shopping, I try to fit in some yoga and stretches but some days I’m so tired I have zero energy. Not sure how this will effect my cholesterol but I do worry about it often.
