    Silica Exposure Dust Aniexty

    Situation:

I was playing padel on an outdoor court with a partial enclosure of glass and metal fencing. Builders were cutting bricks about 4 meters away from one end of the court, while I was positioned at the opposite end, roughly 20 meters away. The dust appeared to be moving away from my direction, possibly due to either wind or the saw’s orientation (not 100% sure it all was though). They was doing this on and off for 30 mins and cut around 20 bricks. I am also hoping the glass back on the courts helped block some of the dust.

    Concerns:

I understand that silica dust exposure is typically a risk in repeated, high-level exposure scenarios. However, I am concerned about any health implications due to this one-time exposure outdoors, especially considering the distance.

    Questions:

    1. Would the 20-meter distance likely have minimized or prevented significant exposure to silica dust? Would the glass on the court have also helped or not against silica dust? Would I be at minimal or near 0 risk at this distance?

    2. Given that this was a brief, outdoor exposure, should I have concerns about potential health effects long or short term?

    3. I am worried if I only breathed in a little bit if Silica I now have a higher risk of cancer?

Any guidance on whether this scenario presents a health risk would be greatly appreciated. Can not stop worrying about this! Feel like I have screwed up my health!

I really think you are over-thinking this one and will be fine.
