    Liver Test Results- terrified

    Hi
i have regular check up including blood tests at my GP due to high blood pressure. All was normal, including liver tests, when I had it done in June but my GP has been rescheduling appointments to coincide with patient’s birthdays so I had an other last week.

after the June test I was prescribed statins so they did an enhanced liver check as statins can damage the liver. I was shocked when the results came back as the additional tests showed results at 10 x the normal rate.

the GP reassured me that all other liver checks were fine, and had been in previous tests and it was likely the statins had caused it. the guidance that comes with the stand warns that a common side-effect is abnormal liver test results. I have to go for a repeat blood test and liver scan soon.

I have quite severe health anxiety and have convinced myself that I have severe liver damage. I drink wine more than the ‘safe’ amount though I am certainly not an alcoholic. I drink at weekends or on social occasions (which are few and far between)

I just can’t shake off this feeling of terror even though common sense tells me not to be so stupid.

Can anyone talk some sense into me please?

Following on from this, I didn’t get any replies, but can anyone advise?

Prior to writing this, was actually feeling quite well physically despite being worried. However, that evening, I started with a bad pain in my stomach, nausea and occasional bouts of diahorrea (sp) . This has continued through every day up to the present and I have felt quite exhausted with it. At one point I felt a bit shivery so I suspect I had a temperature, especially as me heart rate was raised too.

I am booked in for an abdominal ultrasound tomorrow . I just don’t know what to do with myself. My family think it’s just a reaction to the worry round the test results but I’m not so sure. I do have stomach/IBS problems but nothing as long lasting as this as far as I can remember.

This sounds exactly like anxiety to me, Pigeon - sometimes mine lasts for weeks.

Thanks for replying Blue Iris. sorry that you’re a fellow sufferer.

I don’t think I’ve ever had symptoms so bad. I couldn’t get to sleep at all one night as it just carried on through the night. And my stomach was so painful it hurt to walk.

Also, I usually have a really low heart rate but it’s been higher than normal.

I’ve not touched any alcohol ( I only drink wine) for the last three weeks and thought this would help, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. It’s been hard to eat healthily as we’ve been away for a few days and eating out - not been able to find anything that’s not fatty or spicy.

Not that I have an appetite. my mind is fixated on severe liver disease and I can’t shake it off
