    Heart and Huge Panic Attacks

    Hello

2 weeks ago I was in the Netherlands for work, we were taken out for a meal and some drinks one evening. The next morning after little sleep I woke up with a fast heart beat. I had a huge panic attack and threw up. I managed to calm down about 20 mins later but felt like poop all day.

Fast forward to last weekend I had a poor night’s sleep as all I could feel was my hear beating in my chest and in my ear on the pillow. The next morning we flew to Edinburgh with friends and I had a massive panic attack in the airport. My heart rate went to 155bpm sat still. I spent the rest of the day on my Apple Watch checking my heart rate and I had a crap nights sleep the next night too.

Since then, I’ve been feeling my heart beat in my chest and in my ear when I lie down. Also I can see it in my stomach too as my belly wobbles. I’ve woke up a few times in the night feeling a bit panicky too.

My resting heart rate is around 60bpm.

I’ve now sold my Apple Watch as it was just causing me anxiety. Also I’m trying to avoid going to see the doctor as I’m trying to break the cycle.

Do you all think it’s anxiety rearing its ugly head again?

    Thanks for reading

I spoke to the doctor today and he has put me on propanadol for a month. I feel so rubbish and a massive let down to my family and myself.

    Has anyone else experienced similar?

Yeah, I had a racing heart for years. Always worse after little sleep. After years of racing hearts around 150 - 160 I had one that was at least 180 but I think it went even faster, I stopped measuring. After that my doctor also put me on Propranolol.
I take it as slow release every day. It's been amazing for me!

Thank you so much for the reply. How are you feeling now? Do you still take the medication?

Hopefully this will pass like everything else, it’s so frustrating.

    Hello
sorry you are going through this. This sounds exactly the way I experience anxiety. Racing and thumping heart. I have been doing ok but anxiety has reappeared in the last few weeks and I have also been back to gp. She recommended upping dose of fluoxetine from 20 to 40mg but I know that will take some time to kick in. A few years ago I had diazepam but they seem very reluctant to prescribe now. I hope the propanalol helps you - I have heard a few people say that it really helps. What dose did gp put you on? Take care

    Hi. Thank you for posting.

I’ve been put on 40mg twice a day. I did stop taking it on Saturday as it really upset my stomach and I was getting anxious feelings in my chest.

I’m going to try and get into see my doctor today as it’s starting to get me down now.

My anxiety normally manifests mentally not physically so it’s a bit different this time. I’m going to ask about some ssri meds today.

I’m literally sitting trying to relax and all I can feel is my heart beat in my chest. I’m 99% sure it’s anxiety related. I’ve been fine for most of the year with the odd wobble but it seems to have come back with a vengeance.

It’s starting to upset my wife now as she’s not ever suffered from mental health issues so doesn’t quite understand how we can latch onto things and hyper focus etc.

What’s kicked yours off Lady P?

    Hi
Mine started when my dad died - he had heart problems. I have been on Prozac on and off since and I find it really helps.
I also find the Clare Weekes books really good - I have them on audio book and listen to them often. They are very old fashioned now but the message is good. One of the things she says is that anxiety is not about how you feel - it’s about how you think!
I also found this Panic Assist audio very good. And the DARE book and app.
I would keep trying with the Propanlol if I were you - even if you get prescribed an SSRI as they can take a few weeks to kick in and they can often make you feel worse in the first few weeks. Good luck

Not sure if I have copied this correctly but of you can find the audio it’s very good.

Hey, just I'm still on the Propranolol. For me it really helps, no more racing hearts and it makes my other physical symptoms of anxiety either gone or a lot less strong too. So I prefer to stay on it

    Hello

Thank you both for replying I do fully appreciate it.

I went to see the doctor he was fantastic. He has sent off for me to have a 48 hour tape done, that should be in the next 6 weeks, and gave me a 10mg dose of Propanalol should I need it.

He is the best doctor there and I trust him fully. He is not one to just throw drugs at you. He was very thorough, listened and reassured. Can’t ask for more really.

I’m going to have a few chill out days I think and look to try some of the audiobooks that have been recommended. Thanks for that by the way. Couldn’t recommend in return, At Last A Life by Paul David. Absolutely fantastic book and helped me out of a few issues.

Not given any ssri today, he wants to take one step at a time and not put me on anything for the sake of it.

Thanks again for your comments, they have made me feel a bit more at ease
