    Eyes and vision anxiety

Hello all, I haven’t posted on here for a little while and seemingly was doing better but I’ve been knocked back. On Saturday I took my youngest to a party and while she was sat down in the circle I was looking over at my other daughter who was further away. I then looked down at my youngest and my eyes suddenly went really tight and my vision wouldn’t focus and was blurry and weird. I panicked and rubbed them and after a few seconds they returned to normal. Since this has happened my anxiety is through the roof. I’ve got an opticians appointment for Wednesday but I’m scared it’s going to happen again and also scared it could be something awful. It hasn’t happened since but my eyes feel very tight, almost like the muscles are strained.

The optician should be able to determine what may have happened.

Do you wear contacts? Or have dry eyes? This happens to me a lot and it's just due to my eyes or contact lenses being dry or foggy.

Your eyes may hurt due to the stress. Several years ago I thought I was having issues with visual snow and my eyes hurt all the time. It was just because I was so hyper focused and stressed about them.

Either way, good to get it checked and hopefully your doctor can give you an explanation.

    Hi poppy,

No I don’t wear contacts, I was given glasses to help with reading and anything close if my eyes felt uncomfortable due to a slight longsightedness but that was two years ago almost now. I’m terrified of eye tests so I really have to push myself to get the general check ups.
I’m just scared it could be an issue with the optic nerves or something going on with my eyes.

    How did your appointment go?

This sounds like something that happens with tiredness and/or stress, and something that can be more common as we age.

It happens to me a lot and I’m not even that old! Haha

I bet your optician wasn’t concerned and that should help you not be concerned too x

Hey thank you, no the optician wasn’t concerned and my eyes checked out semi okay. I paid for the OCT scan. I needed a prescription for driving and close up. My worries have since moved onto other things so I’ve been distracted from my eyes since x

    Re: Eyes and vision anxiety

My therapist said that if I’m able to distract myself from something then it can’t be serious enough for me to need medical intervention. Granted, this is when I had health anxiety over stroke and heart attack but still. The fact you’re not worrying about it now because you’re worrying about other things might point towards this being another symptom of health anxiety.

Good job on your appointment. I paid extra when I got mine checked too, it’s worth it for that peace of mind.

Speaking of which, I hope you find something to bring peace to your mind so these panics and worries happen less and less.
