This is impossible to predict. Anywhere from tomorrow to some weeks. It all comes down to individual biology.

My anxiety is bad today but was better last night , is there a possibility dose could be too high or is this normal on day 15 of 20 mg. Just laid on sofa with fast heart rate

Anxiety/mood swings can occur and 'normal' tends to be a loose definition when it comes to these disorders and their treatment. Day to day, or even hour by hour fluctuations usually aren't significant. The longer term trend line is the best guide to how the med is performing.

I was switched from Citalopram to Escitalopram a few years ago. The feelings you are experiencing are not anything to worry about, and are very common - and in fact normal - during the transitional phase. Remember that the more you focus on the feelings, the more adrenaline your body releases, which in turn will amplify the feelings and make them feel worse. However, the feelings can't harm you, no matter how unpleasant they may feel, and they will pass. It will get better. You'll be okay. You are okay. Big hugs. Xxx

20mg escitalopram is about the same as 40mg citalopram so I don't think you're on too high a dose. You've also been taking escitalopram for 3 weeks. It typically takes a week for escitalopram plasma levels to stabilize to a steady-state after which side-effects usually begin to ease.

Do you think your anxiety levels are lower, about the same or higher this week than last week?

Given you've switch from an almost identical SSRI I think it should be kicking-in around about now. If there is no significant improvement next week then it's time to switch to another med, imo.

Taking more than is needed doesn't usually cause any issues, but talk to your doctor about dropping the dose back to 15 mg to see if it makes a difference.
