I have been on venlaflaxine for 10 years. I started at 75mg then increased to 225mg overtime. A few years later after listening to some podcasts about how people thought medication was bad, I decided to wean off the medication over time.
“You were put on them for a reason” my doctor reminded me. Did I listen ? Nope. I always think I know best.
I was doing well, really I was. However, in 2024, I went to Gran Canary with my fiancé. I started noticing that I was getting head pains, like the feeling you get when withdrawing from venlaflaxine, but I ignored it. I also noticed, I was acting weird.
When we got back from holiday, thatÂ’s when it went down from there. I couldnÂ’t stop crying, found I had extremely bad depression in the morning, anxiety. I thought IÂ’d man it out but in the end, enough was enough. I saw my local mental health nurse who put me on 75mg IR venlaflaxine.
I felt like crap at first. Over time I started feeling normal, then months went by and I was back to my old happy self! I was amazed at how good I felt and felt so stupid for even coming off the medication.
Fast forward to this month, 7 months later, my depression spell has come back. Depression in the morning, crying in the morning, anxiety, loss of interest, etc it does get better as the day goes on and itÂ’s not as intense due to the 75mg venlaflaxine.
I phoned my drs to see if I could see my mental health nurse, but she isnÂ’t available until after March. So I have made an appointment for my yearly medication review in hope they can do something.
I am worried of going on an increase due to weight gain because I use to be 22 stone, but worked really hard to get to 13 stone. At the moment, I would rather be fat and happy.
I am diagnosed with bipolar and personality disorder. Do you think I would benefit from an increase in venlaflaxine? My medication review isnÂ’t until next Tuesday.
Is it wise to wait until Tuesday?
