I've always managed to take benzos intermittently enough not to become physically dependent. It's more more the psychological dependence around sleep for me. Sounds like you've struggled to stop them.

Yeah, you're better of to only take it as needed. I do struggle in many ways with (both) sleep and atrocious anxiety.
At antidepressant level doses you should be on the extended release version, or be taking the immediate-release tablets in 2-3 divided doses.
Trazodone becomes less sedating as the dose increases so you may need to take another med for that, maybe a low dose of mirtazapine, or even Nytol tablets and liquid containing diphenhydramine, but get the okay on that from your GP first.
To what end?I also wonder about going back on a low dose of venlafaxine.
Things will even out, but "soon" can be a very flexible term. About the only fast thing about ADs is the onset of side-effects. Everything else procedes at a glacial pace. One of the many "interesting" facts of life on ADs.Might things level out soon, do you think or make an adjustment?
Not a lot. There is a small risk of CNS depression when taken with trazodone (also venlafaxine). Also, do you know anything about Daridorexant

Yes thanks PDU. I decided to go back on the venlafaxine 75mg as thr combination has worked well for me before. Just need to get past the adjustment pain...sleep still awful!
I think if you were more stable on the venlafaxine 75mg why fix what ain't broken and use the trazadone as needed and try to use the Zolpidem sparingly. Also try to use the benzo only when you're in crisis. Good luck and best wishes.
