I’m writing here because I’ve been struggling with intense anxiety related to rabies, and I know this is a place where others understand how overwhelming this fear can be.
A few weeks ago, I noticed two scabs on my leg while I was walking the dog outside. Looked already pretty healed. I don’t remember any pain or contact with an animal, but I had been reading a lot about rabies just before that, so I asked ChatGPT if that could have been a bat bite ane it said yes and I immediately panicked. Since then, I’ve been stuck in a cycle of fear—googling symptoms, checking the mark over and over, and constantly worrying I might be in danger even though logically I know it’s unlikely.
I contacted the health authorities here, and after reviewing everything, they told me there’s absolutely no indication for rabies treatment because I did not see or feel any bat at home. Still, my mind keeps going back to “what ifs”—what if it was a bat and I didn’t notice, what if I’m in the window period, etc. I understand this is my health anxiety/OCD talking, but it feels so real.
I guess I’m just looking for support or to hear from others who’ve been through this type of fear. How do you manage when your brain keeps dragging you back into the worst-case scenario? Any tips or words of reassurance would be appreciated.
Do you think I should ask for the vaccine again ? It had been 2 weeks from the day I noticed.
