    Liver Enzymes Elevated

    Hi!

I've had some blood tests due to having a bad bout of ringworm (I requested the blood test). Everything has come back OK except two tests. My sugar level test was raised one point over normal, which I expected - I'm overweight (5 foot 5 and 12 stone). I am currently beginning a health journey to lose weight. I had a chat with the nurse at my GP who gave me great advice.

My big concern is my liver enzymes result. The nurse told me it was 171 and the normal range is 0 - 40!!!! I'm now freaking out and have a GP appointment tomorrow to discuss. The nurse said the dr will probably issue more bloods and a scan.

I have had no abdominal pains - although have some gallstones picked up on a scan 9 years ago but not problematic. I'm obviously a couple of stone overweight. I barely drink alcohol (not really a fan) - usually only one or two alcoholic drinks a month if that. However, did go out on a staff night a week before blood tests and had three glasses of wine (very unusual for me).

I do take a lot of asprin, ibuprofen and paracetamol to combat hormonal migraines (I'm 47 and probably premenopausal). I get migraines around the middle of my cycle and around my period. I never take more than the daily amount but most weeks have to take painkillers due to migraines and a knee injury. I have also recently been given a small daily dose of amiltrypline by doctor for my migraines (I've had Migraines since age 14).

My middle sister and mum (who never drink and are really slim) and my youngest sister who is overweight also had high liver enzymes and were sent for scans and more blood tests and all were fine.

I'm super stressed out and am trying not to Google! I am also trying not to trigger a health anxiety spiral.

    Don't Google. (It's self harm)

The most likely culprit, for me, is the Aspirin. Something to consider is if you took aspirin when you had the blood test done (day before etc) as this could have temporarily raised your levels.

You'll probably find that when they re-test you, the levels have gone back down. (as is often the case)

I have migraines and they're horrible. You have my sympathy. (I don't take Aspirin for mine, but I do take Ibuprofen and Co-Codamol, though I have to go easy on the Ibu because of my acid reflux)

    Re: Liver Enzymes Elevated

Hello, being overweight can cause elevated liver enzymes due to fatty liver.
