One calf bigger than the other - blood test

    It’s been a while thankfully!
I finally gave in and went to my GP today to address why my left calf is bigger than my right. It’s half an inch difference.
She ruled out oedema but has done bloods for iron and diabetes.
My results aren’t back but I’ve been made another GP face to face appointment for the 30/9. I’m thinking all sorts!!

    What are you thinking?

Bodies aren't symmetrical. Our dominant side will be slightly bigger then the non-dominant side. If you do a job where you use one leg more than the other (a foot pedal etc) then you could have a larger calf on that side - unless the other is worked to balance it up.

Is this just something you noticed by looking at it, or do you have other symptoms too?

Thank you for replying. I’m thinking deep vein thrombosis as that’s what they want to rule out although they never offered a scan, unless they will when I go back. I’ve had a desk job for the last 2 years which doesn’t help. Although I cycle to work 4 times a week. I had bunion surgery 5 years ago on that side but the gp doesn’t think that’s anything to do with it. I’d say I noticed the size over a year ago when I couldn’t zip my boots up.

    Blood results are back -

    Inorganic Phosphate level 0.67 mmol/L
    Should be 0.8 - 1.5.
    Bilirubin level 22 umol/L
Should be no more than 21.
    Cholesterol level 5.1 mmol/L
    Should be 3.6 - 5

I haven't got an appointment until the 30-Sep so Im going to ring in the morning to get a sooner appointment cos I'm going out of my mind with worry.

I only went to the gp cos my left calf is slighter bigger than the right and I sometimes get restless legs.

I am not an expert but they don't look that bad to me but yeah see the doc but I wouldn't stress over it.

I’ll give an update hopefully tomorrow if I can bring my appointment forward.
    Just want the anxiety over.

Again, no doc, but your results look ok to me.

My cholesterol is 4.9 and the doc isn't concerned. Nor am I, but I have chosen to cut down on the Kit Kats and asked her to re-test in 3 months, but that's at my request, not hers. (I'd rather get the level going back the other way now rather than wait until it's a bigger issue)

I had a suspected DVT a few months ago (pain behind my knee, restless legs etc) my doc gave me a D-dimer test - which was negative - and the DVT was ruled out at that point. (Mine turned out to be due to a historical hamstring injury and my varicose veins in that area helpfully playing up)

Re: One calf bigger than the other - blood test

I managed to look up an old blood test result from 2023 and the numbers were slightly higher then but I didn’t need to be seen!!
I’ve just called the gp and they’ve managed to move my appointment to this Thursday.
I’ve used ChatGPT to analyse the results and that’s put my mind at rest a bit.
I’ve still called in sick though because I just can’t move on until I’ve seen a gp.
