36/M.
I received a full blood panel back in January. My ferritin levels came back at 11. I had never had a ferritin count before. My doctor was sufficiently worried and sent me to a GI specialist. The GI specialist reviewed my history, my labs and ran a few of his own. He didn't seem very concerned and sent me on my way.
Fast forward to this September, I had more blood work. My ferritin levels are now 12. The GI specialist I saw previously had left the practice and I saw a new doctor. He reviewed my labs and without saying much of anything, he looked at me with a very concerned face and ordered a colonoscopy due to a fear of colon cancer. He had to run to his following appointment and I wasn't able to ask many questions (didn't have time to think about them). I've reached out a few times to try and talk and have not heard anything back.
It's also worth nothing that I am on TRT and have been since July of 2024. My Test levels are pretty high - around 1700ng/dl which is well above the top range of normal test levels (300-1000). I've read that TRT can cause low ferritin, and lots of guys on forums and elsewhere seem to have similar problems. So that is a good thing, I guess.
But I am terrified that this could be something worse. I am equally infuriated that the first GI I saw acted as if there was nothing to fear. If I do have cancer, I've wasted 8 whole months doing nothing about it.
Has anyone had experience with TRT and low ferritin?
