Terrified and worried about colon or stomach cancer

    Hi everyone,

Since June IÂ’ve been having stomach issues. However, about a year ago I also had similar issues and my doctor did an abdominal ultrasound and blood work, also test for h pylori and everything was okay. But 9 months later the symptoms started again.

In May of this year I had a tooth infection and need a root canal. I was taking Advil daily and was on antibiotics for a week. About 2-3 weeks later I started getting symptoms similar to gastritis. So the gnawing pain when having an empty stomach, yellow stool, heart burn, etc. it stayed for 4 days and went away. Then a week later returned and itÂ’s been on and off since.

I have heart burn almost daily, especially after eating. I canÂ’t eat anything acidic or it causes it to worsen. The gnawing doesnÂ’t happen as much anymore since June. I am having yellow stools but IÂ’m also taking Pepcid which supposedly can cause that. My doctor last year didnÂ’t seem concerned about yellow stools. IÂ’m also have stools that if it sits in the toilet bowl for more than 5 minutes I notice on the bottom of the bowl that there is liquid seeping out. The liquid can be yellow or a brown orange colour.

Pepcid helps with the acidic feeling in back of throat and in my stomach. But the liquid coming out of my stool really scares me. IÂ’m so worried.

Gosh this is all very normal. I have all of this very regularly and have done since I can remember. I’m not saying it doesn’t make me panic because these are all triggers for me but I’ve had the tests you have and been told repeatedly I’m ok. Both of my kids and also I have the liquid coming out of the stool and that is normal for us. I can understand the panic honestly but I’ve had all of this checked and nothing is a problem. I’ve got a very sensitive digestive system and this seems to get worse as I get older but it’s nothing more dangerous than that. You’re fine xx

Hello Button, i appreciate you responding to my post. I’ve been spiralling so often about this as I get heart burn on and off daily now.

I am seeing my dr in December and will bring it up. But I’m also so afraid of tests just in case something bad shows up. Do you also get heart burn often? I just got married in September of this year and I was extremely stressed leading up to it due to the planning. Then this year we had to help my grandma move to a retirement home and sell her house which took a big emotional toll on me. I feel like that is when all of these symptoms worsened. :(

I get acid and and heartburn way more than I used to. I don’t think we give stress and anxiety enough credit for the physical toll they take on our bodies sometimes PLUS sometimes…it’s just one of those things. Not sinister. Just is x

I definitely noticed it more since turning 30. But prior I used to never get heart burn and now I get it daily. I think it all started last year with the emotional stress then it wired up after being on antibiotics and taking lots of Advil in May of this year.

I started on changing my lifestyle the last two weeks. Eating better, walking an hour every day. Now that the wedding is done the stress has calmed down.

I just hate all the burping and the sensation of the burn in my throat. I was fine yesterday and then I had my therapy session at 6pm yesterday and I don’t know if it was due to that but the heart burn started up again. It wasn’t a very stressful session but maybe subconsciously it got to me.

I think some of these digestive things are self perpetuating, anxiety about them tends to bring them on. Advil and antibiotics are also very disruptive to the gut so don’t underestimate that.

Re: Terrified and worried about colon or stomach cancer

Since Saturday I’ve had an achey pressure feeling in my lower belly. Mainly middle under belly button. But it can be the entire lower belly too. When I have to poop it feels worse, when I strain it also can feel worse.

I’m scared my intestines are inflamed or something. My stool is yellow brown but I eat a lot of carrots and squash cause I have GERD. This lower ache scares me that it’s my stomach or uterus or something.

In September 2024 I had a transvaginal ultrasound which showed a cyst on my left ovary. I also had an abdominal ultrasound which was fine and blood work. Tested negative for h pylori.

I’m spiraling about the achiness. :(

Obviously the colour of your stools is dietary, so nowt to worry about there.

Regarding the achiness, I get that when I strain. The pressure from straining affects the abdo & pelvic floor muscles. (cause & effect)

Try using a warm (not hot) heated pad on your tummy... (this helps me)

Thank you Nora, appreciate the recommendations!

You know what’s funny? I told myself to stop worrying about the pressure, that it could be related to my pelvic area as I am in physio for pelvic floor tension and it stopped. Now just stuck with on going heart burn and sore throat feeling.

Pelvic floor will do it too...

Heartburn and sore throat is the GERD (I have GERD)

I find Gaviscon Advance to be helpful with the heartburn...
