    Please help!

We have a microwave that hasn't been used in a very long time. Its been closed the whole time. I wasnt really thinking and opened it. Now im freaking out I let out some weird mold or botulism into the house. It it even possible for botulism to grow in a microwave?? Im really freaking out my family is going to get sick.

As long as you don't eat anything inside of it, you will be fine. Just give it a good clean if you plan to use it, and make sure the electrical cord is intact.

I would say this was impossible to happen. Just clean it and forget it.

This really is an impossible scenario. Just clean it thoroughly and forget about it

Wouldn't the microwaves destroy any mould anyway? At times I've had no choice but to use a dirty microwave. Mine personally is spotless. Never got ill from it. But it's generally best to give new second hand appliances a good clean before use anyway. That oven pride stuff should work if there's stiff dirt in there. In the summer I cooked sausage on a stone in the woods with my brother. Washed off the dirt in the stream. That was fun and tasty. Never got ill.

I used to clean in a warehouse, one of my rooms being the canteen (I say canteen, it was a microwave, a fridge and a kettle)

The employees were predominantly males under 25 (hygiene not their forte) and the first time I opened the microwave door, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned, ever.

Ol' Nora doesn't do filth, so I set to work with the hot water and lemon juice..

The lads thought it was a new microwave...

Point is, none of them came to any harm. (Nor did I)

The gents toilets, however.... (that's another story, lol)
