    Breathing again :(

Hello, me again… I’m really struggling with my breathing at the moment.
I feel tight chested and like I’m breathing through a straw, I keep mouth breathing and taking a deep breath that doesn’t always feel satisfying enough to fill my lungs and if it does it will only help for a short while and then I’m back with the same issue. I’ve had this on and off for quite a long while, it has gone away before but it always comes back and I’m panicking trying to deal with it. It can feel worse when I’m talking and eating like I have to stop and take a deep breath or slowly breathe through my nose for a little while. I’m starting to feel really worried

You’ve had it for a while and you’ve had it checked out haven’t you? What have doctors said is behind it? X

I had it for the first time in 2022. My post is still on here actually, I went to doctors and A&E and they said everything was fine.
But since then I get weird bouts of it, so it has gone away for ages before but then it comes back. This year it’s been on and off and I went to the doctors about it again this year. He did my oxygen and BP and listened to my lungs and said all was okay. It’s just so strange and it terrifies me in case it’s my heart or my lungs

Did they give you any advice for if it happens again? Is it possible it’s anxiety? Have you had x ray’s etc so they can see that everything is structurally fine?

A big anxiety symptom and one I get. You need to learn to control the breathing or you get panicky.

If you have been checked out and nothing found then anxiety can cause it.

I have had a bad cough and shortness of breathe for a few months and doc is sending me for a chest x-ray and said my asthma may be a cause of it.

It is very scary I know.

    Re: Breathing again :(

I get this often. I think the longest I've had it consistently was a month, or more. I've very recently struggled with it as I had a cold and I always worry about pneumonia, so my anxiety will play up on this and I feel like I can't breathe.

It's absolutely an anxiety symptom. I find distraction works for me - just noting that it's happening, telling myself that I know it's nothing serious, and finding something to do so I can't dwell on it too much. Sometimes box breathing helps me too, although I feel like you've said in the past that doesn't help you.

It's anxiety and panicking will only make it worse.

Speak slowly. Eat slowly. Slow everything down.....

I keep mouth breathing and taking a deep breath that doesn’t always feel satisfying enough to fill my lungs

Before you take a deep breath, you need to empty your lungs first then take a deep breath in.

They did give me an xray in hospital in 2022 and said everything looked okay but it’s been a few years now so I’m worried something may have changed. When I have been to the doctors again they said they didn’t want to refer me for an xray as lung sounds were good and oxy measured fine but this was back in may time. They always put it down to anxiety but I feel like they say everything is my anxiety

Doctors appointment yesterday, oxygen 99% blood pressure 167/77 chest and lungs clear and doctor said every lobe in my lung is receiving oxygen so why do I still feel so bad. Tight chest and feeling like I can’t breathe.
The doctor gave me a leaflet to look at for dysfunctional breathing which is what he’s said this is but I’m not sure. I feel so bad right now

Your lungs are working perfectly, so no underlying conditions in your case. This is ANXIETY. You have to retrain yourself to breathe properly and do relaxation exercises. Until you do this, you will continue to feel bad...
