I cant take xanax or ativan is there any other benzo any one has found useful for occassional use for an overwhelming panic?

I am joy.They dont agree with me.Took a xanax just .25 last night.It brought on panic like you wouldnt believe and thinking was all weird.Scary indeed.I phoned doctor today to be told xanax relaxes people.not me!

they have no more effect than smarties on me, the medics think i'm lying i reckon, cos most people they work for

Hi Bet

Sorry to hear of no success with xanax and ativan. They are both tranquillizers, perhaps your body has no tolerance to benzo's.

There must be other medications apart from benzo's to treat anxiety. Keep trying with your doctor.

You're not alone, I have no tolerance for sedatives, they make me panic! I hate that feeling in the head that they give, made me panic so much, it's like being drunk (which I hate). I kept going back to the drs until they gave me something that I could stand.

I take 2.5mg ativan at night and 2 x 2mg diazapam during the day. The ativan is very strong and are a real help, but I am worried about coming down off of them, which I know my dr will suggest sooner or later.

In case we got our wires crossed, tranquillers are not the same as sedatives. It's the sedatives that I have a problem with.

Thank you Elspeth.Are you on other medication also?I used to be on valium.The lost their effect after a while.I was taken off them slowly the only way to go with all benzos.

I remember taking ativan once and feeling I had been hit over the head.Whatever it is about xanax in particular they make me feel so weird.
