Unable to take a deep breath

Does anyone else find it almost impossible to take a satisfying deep breath when they have bad anxiety? I get this every now and again and it lasts a few days then goes and it's really scarey. I have to make myself yawn before I can expand my chest enough and it gives me a panicky breathless feeling.

    Hi Heebie
Yea i can't always take deep breaths and they land up being quick and shallow, can be very freaky at times.

    hi heebie,
i get that all the time and i hate it, it's so scary. i try doing an abdominal breathing exercise - you basically lie on your back and put one hand on your stomach, one on your chest. breathe through your stomach (you can check you are doing this because the hand on your stomach will rise while the hand on your chest will stay put). try and breath in and out slowly.
anyway, at the very least this will calm you down and might allow you to take a proper deep breath.
    hope that helps!

Thanks everyone and I'll try that Henri. Got some of that Rescue Rememdy that I saw mentioned in a post and that did seem to take the edge off last night.
