There are some foods which are supposed to help anxiety, although I can't recall many at the moment.

Apricots and Savoy Cabbage are the two which stick in my mind! There is a whole list though, which of course is basically just a list of a lot of fresh fruit, nuts, seeds and vegetables.

I've had Valerian tea bags before for insomnia and they smell awful but taste ok and seem to help.

Thanks for that comprehensive list Ace I think I might print it out and take it with me on my next trip to Holland & Barrett.

It's interesting to know what is available naturally - and there are more than a few there that I haven't heard of!

I found Cammoile Vanilla and Honey herbal tea to be quite helpful.

Guess the cheese is still a no-no then?

I tried Valerina tablets last week - available from Tesco - £4.99 for 80.

Take 4 before bedtime. They claim to be higher in concentration in Valerian than Kalms.

I was having a rough day on Sunday - boffed 4 of them after tea and felt strangely chilled out the rest of the night.

Woke up on Monday feeling awful - convinced I couldn't go into work. Took four of them. Within 30 minutes I felt on top of the world. That lasted all day.

Seem to work for me! I've read that they are given in high doses to help people coming off Xanax and Valium, etc.

I have also read that they are safe to take with prescription anti-depressants.

Let's face it - if doctors can prescribe Xanax and Valium with anti-depressants then no-one can tell me it ain't safe to take Valerian with them!

(They also include hops and lemonbalm)

the thing with herbs is some people feel an effect straight away and some take awhile, some people dont even notice the effect untill they relise they feel alot better one day.
