    so tired

Hi, after being unable to sleep for the first couple of weeks on Citalopram, I now can't stop sleeping. I'm about 5 weeks into the tablets. Last night I slept from 12.00 till noon today and fell asleep mid afternoon again for a few hours. Is this normal and will it settle down eventually? I'm meant to be going bak to work soon and am a bit worried about getting up on time!

I guess that 5 weeks though is still early days, but can understand your concern because of going back to work

Some of this sleeping could be your body mending it's self and reclaiming the sleep it has missed. I recall sleeping lots at first. I think it will pass but when are you taking the tablets? I remember taking mine in the evening at first then once I was ok I took them in the morning.

    Re: so tired

    Hi there,

I just started taking these tablets (4 days now) and i cant work out how i feel. Im on 20mg and though i feel chilled or spacey, not sure which.... i find it really hard to fall to sleep then im up a couple of times in the night cos i cant sleep. Of course then, im sleepy and yawning from mid afternoon and cant wait for my bed and hey presto....the cycle starts again. Is this the medication or what?????

    Re: so tired

Hi, I've noticed that my tiredness level has really increased this week and my headaches have got worse. I was gonna start a thread like this about the tiredness. I'm on week 5 of citalopram. I take it in the morning as I found it interrupted my sleep at night and caused anxiety attacks in the early hours of the morning.

Every time I get a new side effect I wonder whether I will go back to normal. I've never been on this kind of medication for this long so I haven't got any frame of reference. I keep wondering if the medication is too strong for me but I am frightened to reduce the dose as I still find myself feeling anxious and down every so often.

I suppose we've got to believe that we will recover from the side effects whether it takes two days or two months. Believing in our recovery is a vital part of the healing process. I for one don't plan to spend the rest of my life feeling like this. But to be on the safe side I'm gonna see my doctor next week if the headaches and tiredness persist. It could be a virus, it could just be anxiety or a reaction to the drug. I'll let you know what he says.
