Side Effects With Citalopram

Good afternoon all

It would be really informative for me if anyone else on this forum has suffered from the following effects that I am:

Losing weight
Lots of bowel movements (!)

I have been back to docs as my meds ran out and he has given me another 2 months' to take (I have been on it for one month). I am now going to have blood tests done because I might have over-active thyroid but I just wondered if it could possibly be the drugs even though my doc doesn't seem to think so.
Would be grateful for any helpful replies

Iv not lost any weight on them but def had the extra bowel movements lol

I have known someone who did lose weight while taking them

I lost weight at first but then found out I was diabetic. i think the bowel problems are more anxiety than the meds,

Hi ive lost a bit of weight since being on them but think it because of the sickness side affect and i wasnt eating properly bowel movement are down to anxiety like somene else said xx

hope this won't put you off or anything, because i truly believe we all need to try things out in whatever form it is. And give things a while
so will just say that yep have lost a fair bit of weight, though thats not so bad ha
but have had to cut down today, as have had physical side effects
and panic through roof, but the symptoms you mentioned i was relieved to hear others have had too. In fact apart from my "safe room" the loo has been the next place spent alot of time in the last few days Ha :0 ) !!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ruby

Yes there is some side effects from this drug but these go away as your body adjusts to them. The benefits and positives far outweigh any side effects. Be patient and allow yourself time and space to get well.

I lost about a stone when I started the citalopram.6 months later and I've regained the weight.Didnt have diarrohea,prob coz I started on 10mg and worked up to 30mg.
I once took prozac 20mg and had terrible diarrohea.I stopped taking them after 4 days cos of it.The dose was too strong to start on I think.TMI

Hi Ruby

I lost weight before I took citalopram as I was so bad with anxiety and depression that I couldnt eat. Once the tablets kicked in I started eating normally and now have gained all the weight I lost and a bit more. A little excess weight is nothing compared to the suffering I went through.

Has anyone gained weight?
I get really down about my weight and people thinking there is more to it....I can fluctuate between 6.5-7.5 in a v short space of time.
I went on the pill but it did not do all that much..
I dont want to take them if the majority lost weight on them!
