Screwed up in a ball.....IBS related!!!

    Hi

Have just had 3 days of evil IBS

Without realising I have been sat hunched in a ball

Now the IBS has calmed my ribs round the sides and my back ache like hell

Anyone else get this and any tips for releiving it????

Also is it usual after a bad dose of IBS to have no appetite????

Sorry for all the questions but was only recently told that I have it

    Thanks Guys

    Hi Kaz

I only got diagnosed with it a month or so ago.

Do you have any anti-spasmodics? These relax the muscles in your intestine (I think its the intestine!) to help your food "pass through" you easier. You can get these from Boots hun, or any chemist.

Its totally usual for me to lose appetite when I get the symptoms. I feel so bloated and the cramps are awful. I end up too worried to eat in case something sets it off again!

Do you know what foods are causing it? My GP recommend I keep a food diary but to be honest it was obvious for me that it was dairy. But if you arent sure then keep track of the foods you eat and when the symtoms hit, and this may help you to find out which foods you should be avoiding

Re: Screwed up in a ball.....IBS related!!!

    Hi Kaz

I have had IBS for 25yrs now. I was put on Colofax which helped years ago and now take Buscopan 4 times a day, and it does help. Like Lilith, I was also told to keep a food diary. I eat small amounts five times a day. I also found changing my main meal to mid-day instead of having it at night helped a lot.

As you will be aware, anxiety, stess, worrying etc. increases the symptoms. Gentle exercise helps, I was told by my consultant to avoid areobic exercise (could be to do with my age 55yrs. lol) to do gentle strech exercises and plenty of walking, yoga etc. Try to rest and keep yourself relaxed (easier said than done, I know) and eat small light meals when it 'flares up'. I also get the bloated feeling and my stomach is constantly swollen now. When it 'flares up' I also feel as though I am full, but have been told to make sure I eat small but often.

Hope this helps and you are feeling better soon

    Thanks Jodie

The Buscopan tablets do help stop my tummy playing up but the painkillers although good make me feel like Ive been in the pub all day so tend to avoid them!!!

    Hi
I am sorry to hear how bad you are feeling. I dont know if this will be of any use, but when my tummy is really playing up with anxiety and I get IBS, I drink peppermint tea and eat loads of mints and I know it sounds a bit like it prob wont work but for me it really worked as it relieves the pain a lot.

    Hi
I know when I am anxious my stomach really goes into knots, cramps and spasms and gets bloated and all the rest. It can get really painful, so I sympathise with anyone who gets this. White bread and potatoes, or anything including potatoes makes it flare up whether I am anxious or not. I am not sure why that would be but it does. I know the eating loads of mints thing and peppermint tea helps me.
