    Hi,

    My names robert and i am currently going through the worst stage of my life!! I'm 25 and i am having what appears to be panic attacks or something similar. I have had tests done on my heart and they came back all clear. I have been like this for 6 months now. I feel like i can't do anything i used to. My first Panic attack happened when i was driving back from work on the M1 at 23.00 at night. It was the most scared i have ever been, i was so glad to get back to my flat alive.. It felt like i was having a heart attack!!

    I have been seeing my GP for 6 months now and i have only just been prescibed some drugs (beta Blockers) He tried me on anti depress drugs, but i was'nt depressed. Only been on them for 2 weeks so can not tell if they are working. Unfortunatly i lost my job because of the panic attacks, so i'm pretty much house bound at the mo. Trying to build my confidence back from these attacks.

    I've just started to do some running to get me out of my flat. Seems to be working!!

    If anyone has any thoughts to help me get through this hard time i would love to here from you!!

    My name is Elizabeth I am 25 years old. I had my first attack in my final year at university, i was prescribed betablockers and they seemed to disappear. Until January this year when they returned with avengence. I first noticed that I was concentrating on my breathing and began to worry that i wasn't breathing properly. I ignored this for a few months until i got to the stage where i was frigthened to be left on my own, my partner became my safe person and i found it very difficult to be apart from him. I had a lot of stress we were trying to buy our first home, i had applied for promotion, my work was getting to me, I work for social servcies and was finding that i was convincing myself that I had the illnesses my clients had such as MS. One day driving to work I thought i was going to pass out, i couldn't breathe properly, saw spots in front of my face and the back of my head felt so heavy it was about to expolde I managed to get to work then I burst into tears, I decided then it was time to get help, I went to the doctor but was in such a state that I couldn't actually walk through the door, I had to tell the receptionist to come and get me from outside when the doctor was ready.
    He was very understanding and prescribed beta blockers and arranged for me to see a psycotherapist. The beta blockers have helped get over the onset of panic and the psycotherapy has helped me understand what and why the attacks happen. I am still suffering from severe anxiety, we went on holiday recntly and I was frightened to be too far away from a hospital, I hate driving on my own particularly on the motorway, like my psychotherapist said what would a passenger do to help you if you passed out! he is right but it makes me feel better if I know someone is with me.

    Has anyone else felt like this?
    Can you suggest anything to get me over this anxiety, I have started swimming which relaxes me but have still have overwhelming fear.

    I,too,have experianced some of what you are going through and I really do feel for you.I hope I can reassure you that things will improve.What helped me alot was understanding "anxiety" and learning that it was the fear of that fear that was fuelling mine.
    I learnt to relax properly with tapes and started to think positively about myself and also the anxiety.
    I have not had a full blown attack for some years now.I have learnt to deal with anxiety on a daily basis and it is very much a part of my life.
    The biggest thing was accepting it and not letting it take over.I find that you can become very self centred and I don't mean selfish.You become so aware of what your body is doing that you can come to feel worse.You have to look outside of yourself and know that what your body is doing is not harmful to you.
    I can also recommend Yoga and Aromatherapy oils. I used to take a homeopathy remedy too that was excellant.

    YO folks. I used to have severe panic disorder. Had major panic attacks every day. Now I don't. Still get small ones which generally go away quickly. So everyone can get better!!

    Hi everyone. Posted a new topic in here the other day saying hi. No-one replied so I assuemd I was doing something wrong. Didn't know about these threads already here. Bit thick, excuse me and accept my apologies! Anyway, my name is Mark, I'm 22 and agoraphobic. Have been to anxiety management and worked with a specialist for two years on helping me get back on my feet. My main problem is getting out alone. I've recently worked out that many, many other things come along with agoraphobia as well as that. I find it very difficult to trust and I easily get jealous. Have posted in the Phobia forum. Anyway, I come here in search of support, guidance and just to talk to people who understand. I have looked around and everyone looks friendly.

    Hi nicola sorry not been on here for a while you are very welcoming,thanks,i am 25 years old have suffered with panic attacks for about six years which started off by taking amphetamine at a nightclub once.
    I learned the hard way, i suffer panic attacks ever since basically thinking its the end of the world or something and impending doom,my typical symptoms are feeling of heart attack,and struggling for breath,complete insanity i would say too anyone on here though you can get back too the way you were you have too be 200 per cent positive and not let negative thoughts rule you,you are in control of your own destiny.I live in london though am originally from lancashire i work as a warehouse worker live in a houseshare enjoy most things from football,swimming,fishing,watching dvds and of course drinking,would be happy too speak and correspond with anyone on here its nice too meet you also nicola would be nice too know a little about you also thanks for listening martin
