    Red face Miss C

    Hi

Just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Michelle and I am 25. I have been on Citalopram since March 2007. I was prescribed this for anxiety and depression. This tablet really works but I am sure I am suffering from long term side effects. Has anyone had weight gain in the long term rather than short term with this drug? Also has anyone suffered from dry itchy skin? Rashes? Hope to hear some feedback.

Citalopram is excellent with treating anxiety disorders but I feel I suffer from mood swings quite often. Not sure if Citalopram is to blame for this?

    Hi Michelle and

You'll get loads of advice and support here while making new friends along the way. I take citalopram and haven't experienced any of the things you mention apart from mood swings but I think that's down to anxiety.

    Take care,

    Mike

    Re: Miss C

Hi Michelle, welcome. In answer to your question about citolapram, ive never taken it myself but alot of ppl on nmp do, but i can relate to the weight gain problem. I take a beta blockers and since first taking them in sept last year i have gained 2st. mostly around the 'spare tyre' area which ive never had before, but its all over really. In the past when ive wanted to lose a bit of weight, ive been careful with what i eat and the weight has come off no probs, but now i just cant seem to shift it no matter what i do. The doc has agreed with me that this can be a side effect of betablockers and just shrugs his shoulders about it and i get so frustrated. He seems to think that i want a 'magic pill' that can take away the anxiety and make me feel on top of the world too....well, actually yes i do!

Ive read loads of posts on here about citolapram, it seems to be the number one drug for anx, but ive never read that anyone has put on weight with it, but maybe someone will have that experience and come forward to tell you.

Keep reading and keep posting...you're not alone.
    Best wishes
    Cathy xxx
