    Save a life

    Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.
Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke
victim may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize
    the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three
    simple questions:

    *Ask the individual to SMILE.

*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

*Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE.

    * And give them an aspirin right away.

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1
immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could
identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems,
researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions.
They presented their conclusions at the American Stroke Association's
annual meeting last February. Widespread use of this test could
result in prompt diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent
    brain damage.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10
people, you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I am not sure we should be just giving out aspirin to people though - surely that could make things worse in some cases?

    Thanks for that Vern,
I knew about the aspirin bit, i always carry soluable aspirin with me, don't ask, but as nic says, what if some-one suffers with a stomach ulcer or something like that, it may do worse damage than anything, found it interesting though! xx

Sorry you feel like that Vern. :(

I would have said it to anyone - I am sure you know that it wasn't personal.

I just heard that you shouldn't always give someone an aspirin just because you think they are having a heartache etc. If I am wrong then I am sure Meg will correct me.

I agree not always wise to give anyone an aspirin but, this could happen at home or to someone you know are ok to take an aspirin? But the rest of it I found useful and people don’t always collapse with a stroke so it would be useful to be able to tell early so you could maybe prevent someone getting worst.

The other week I posted a list of phobias and you told me they where already on the site? Fair enough I had forgot I had seen them and surely someone who are not to good at navigating a computer would find them useful. There are new people coming on this site daily so I don’t really find a problem if a post gets posted again now and then. Take care. Vernon
